So i'm looking to create a new pc as the one i have now seems to be chugging along on it's last legs. I'm a little out of touch with whats best bang for buck.

I'm looking to create it for gaming/photoshop/3D modelling purposes.

- I already have a PSU (800W) and DVD Drive from my current build which i was planning on reusing in the new one.

- I have a GTX 560 Ti that i'll be transfering over so no need for a graphics card, although i would like to SLI in the future.

I want to go Intel.

max budget is around the £500 mark.

Any ideas? Help is appreciated :).

You will need new ones.

IDE connections yyou wont find on modern boards.

The PSU isnt to be trusted and cheap makes cant deliver the wattage/amps.

Be careful with that PSU. It looks quite cheap, and the last thing to skimp on is the PSU. Your probably going to want a SATA dvd drive, ide isn't really used anymore.

Thats going to eat a fair bit of your budget up. Do you need keyboard etc? New case?

What about the case are you reusing your current one? The fact you have a good GPU should mean you can get a good spec even after replacing your psu.

I'm looking for a new case.

I've not had a single problem with the PSU i mentioned which has been running the following spec for over a year (minus the GTX which was a 9800 GTS before that). The PSU replaced a 620W Corsair one i originally bought which failed.

Q6600, Asus P5ne SLI, 4gb ram, GTX 560 ti, 320gb Sata.

I'm not looking to spend anything fancy on a case, psu or drives. I'm using a Thermaltake Shark which is huge. It's been far to much trouble than it's worth and it's pretty much fallen apart. Something nice, sleek and simple would be great.

What about this then:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £121.98
1 x XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £99.98
1 x BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £31.99
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £499.92 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Simple case, good for the money but not expensive.

So this + your GPU + your HDD :)
And you've got a motherboard and PSU which will easily handle SLI.

That's a nice spec above and will serve you well. The only change I would make is maybe more ram for the photoshop and 3D modeling work.

Any suggestions on another mb thats cheaper. I quite like the look of the one posted but all i really want is to make sure it is equipped for sli unless there are any new features i should really be keeping an eye out for.

I was thinking of ordering two sets of 8gb for photoshop purposes.

Psu looks great but is it a bit overkill, or could i get by with a lower number.

The gtx is an asus gtx 560ti cu 2 1024mb if that makes any difference.

What would be the advantage of a better case anyway. I doubt i'll be doing anything fancy like overclocking or cooling. Just something cheap and chearful really. As long as it has some ventillation and can fit everything comfortably then thats fine with me.

Cheers for the help so far.

Plus the GTX 560 ti i already have. I also added a copy of Windows 7.

So whats the verdict? Just want to know if the choice of memory and mb is ok really. I'm really liking the Bit Fenix case after seeing a few videos of it in the flesh.

I was looking at that and the WD one. I never noticed the Seagate one had a lower seek time. Does that make much difference then? Not really a hdd expert.

I would have gone with the WD one otherwise as i've had them before.

This it is then :)
