Hello everyone,

I've finally got to that point again where I'm looking to build a brand new computer! Hooray!

My problem is however, that my knowledge is somewhat heavily outdated in terms of current specifications, etc. I have no idea what's good/bad/ugly at the moment or indeed, what chipsets work with what. Shameful I know, but I'm completely out of the loop!

I'm looking to build a computer - all in - for around £800 give or take. This includes monitor and case. I still have my Lian-Li PC7 case, but I'm now considering selling it on. The budget isn't set in stone, but I'd like to keep around that benchmark.

I still also have a next to new PSU (I think it's 650w?) that's about four year's old, so that should be able to be salvaged. Aside from that, it's a fresh build.

If anyone would care to help me out here, I'd be extremely grateful and hopefully (re)educated in the process!

Thanks very much!

Hdd needs to be replaced. As for opticals I'm looking for a decent BR/DVD-RW.

I can't honestly recall what PSU I have without a lot of faffing about. For some reason I have Hyper stuck in my head though. It's over 600w, only used for a couple of months before my old PC packed in. Shouldn't need replacing.

I should also mention I need a networking solution as everything is wireless in my house.

Hiper type r? Might wanna bin it! Mine took my motherboard when it broke. They werent very reliable, well sort of anyway, i had bad experience, know a lot of people on here did as well...something to think about anyway..

Edit, spec above looks good. You could save a fiver by getting the Cooler Master 212 instead. spend that fiver on a this hdd, extra years warranty and has a 32 cache as opposed to 16mb

Missing the headset BUT...........

This is Xfire capable, you had a 650W PSU in your spec which is overkill for a single GPU it would power two 7850s. I'm sure it would be possible to get a 660 or even the 7950 in the spec if you tried and made some compromises.

* Better SSD with more storage, bigger storage drive as well at 1TB

* Bluray writer probably isn't worth the extra, the blank media is expensive, you can fit HD movie rips just fine on a DVD-DL disk.

* The Ghost case is a good price on preorder, has sound proofing like the R4. The better wifi card is also on preorder too, should be more expensive once in stock.

Hope this helps, any questions feel free to ask
