hi there,

possibly need a new build or a serious upgrade.

gaming and autodesk 2014 at 1440p. gaming takes priority...

my 2500k @4.5 has finally died and 1155 seems to be a dead socket. so a mobo upgrade and new cpu are a must.

i have two 7950's @ 1ghz (weird bios that came with them). they seem to work well enough but would ideally like a single card solution, because why not.

oh and 8gb of ram @1600 mhz

need a new modular psu.

have 64gb and 128gb ssd's atm. will probably sell and replace with a 500gb/tb ssd (if worth it) for os and steam etc. as well as a 1-3tb hdd for work/storage.

no budget, need an os.

i'm kind of smitten with the small form factor. but this is most likely a pointless luxury.

any help/builds much appreciated!

In all honesty, I would keep your 7950's as you'll get better performance from that over a single card solution.

This would be my recommendation:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £169.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £139.99
1 x Parvum Systems S1.0 MicroATX Case - Black with Green £132
1 x Antec High Current Pro 750W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £129.95
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW) £99.95
1 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition Low Noise High Airflow - Dual Pack (CO-9050002-WW) £19.99
1 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack (CO-9050001-WW) £13.99
Total : £717.86 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I would:
  • Use your 128gb for games and use the 250 for your OS
  • 7950's in xFire, should have room in the case
  • Great looking case with plenty of space
  • AF 120's for front/top and back
  • Antec PSU is a Seasonic unit, so top quality product
and an OS; sorry forgot to add one in.

thank you for that!

i'm guessing add a 4770k to that list?

i guess you're right about the 7950's. i'll keep them.

should i be keeping the ram i currently have or upgrade that too?

many thanks!
