Haven't built a computer for 4 years so bit out of the loop on hardware other than my research for the last week.

Build I'm looking at is

250gb 850 Samsung ssd
Recommendation on mobo?
Recommendation on case?

Gtx 970 strix

Hi

What's your budget?

Are you just after a tower for playing games? what resolution is your monitor?

Haven't got a monitor yet but looking at 1080p for the time being. Budget is around £700? I'm pretty much just looking at a great 1080p gaming machine that can play everything at high settings

How about that? GTX960 comes with a free game.

The only thing is I cant see how what you listed comes anywhere near £700.

This is £700 without an overclockable board+cpu,

For a motherboard I'd recommend a Z97 chipset so you can overclock the 4690k, but a more precise choice depends on what you want in the system. Perhaps check out some of the CPU-motherboard bundles and choose one that comes bundled with a 4690k, they are usually good choices.

If you go for a GTX 970, the ASUS Strix is one of the top 3 and a good choice. Other 2 are the MSI or the Gigabyte G1, both of which clock a bit higher.

For PSU, choose any from this thread. The Antec you've chosen is on there, so good choice. Perhaps go with an EVGA SuperNOVA (around the same price) instead for modular cables? They make things much easier.

As for case, it might I suggest an NZXT. Their cases are usually nice to build in and have cable management space. The H440 has a window and a PSU box to keep things neat, the H630 is more silent and has an SD reader (also on sale this week). I think you should look at the cases yourself and see what designs you like best, since the case is the most important for aesthetics. Phantecs is also another good brand.

Edit: Stulid beat me to it X) I'd say £700 is not quite enough for gaming 1080p at the highest settings. Give yourself £100 extra and go with Stulid's first suggestion but upgrade that 960 to a 970. Best choice IMO.

Well looking at the 970 as I can get one for £200 off a friend. If I have to pay more that's fine but want max sorta settings at 1080p not interested in anything more at the moment as don't want to break the bank for a suitable monitor for higher resolutions. Most I'm totally clueless with is mobo and a case that'll fit it all.

The antec is good value.

Three fans prefitted, high and low speed controllers and some sound dampening.

How about PSU? I want to invest in a good one as I've been told the 970 has issues with coile whine if you get a ****e one. would a 650w be better? for expansion and such in the future.

That is a good one.

if you wanted to do SLI (two gfx cards) then I would recommend a 750W+ PSU especially if you plan on overclocking the CPU+Cards.

Should I look at getting a 750w for the future? how long would a quality one stand to last? I wouldn't mind putting two in there in the future if it's worth it to stretch current computer further by just buying a gtx970 in a few years time which should be cheap instead of a new generation. Is this a feasible solution? or just stick with singular cards unless I can afford a new generation solution at the time?
