hi
we have setup a small office and 'electricians' ran all the cable as per the MD's instructions
BT have put in the broadband, which we will use as the fax

our fax machine is also our network printer, but the printer is over the other side of the room.
by that printer is 2 network points, 1 is so the printer can be used to print on the network, the other i have been told is 'for the fax and franking machine'

so my scenario is (probably easy if you know what you need) i have 1 data point on wall, that i need to plug both a fax and franking machine into?
and then the cable goes to the BT Socket on the wall, but it has an RJ45 end on which wont obviously go into the phone socket on the ADSL filter.

assuming the cable is ok, what parts/accessories do i need to get those devices working on the phone/fax line

hopefully i have explained that ok

basically you cant use it for both, the fax machine, can plug in to an rj 45 connector providing you use a rj 11 - rj 11 cable, from the fax to the wall point then from the other end of the wall point you need rj 11 to bt ( normal fax cable) to the bt socket.

i know our franking machine uses rj 45 and uses the internet not a phone line so you could not even use a switch because the fax would not be able to pass through it.

Don't put an RJ11 into an RJ45 port it does fit, but damages the pins in the port. Use a proper adapter.

So at the fax machine end i need an rj11 to rj45 adapter?
And then at the bt socket end i have an rj45, what do i need to so that the rj45 cable will fit in the phone socket on the adsl filter?

rj45 to bt, or get a pbx adapter at both ends.
or you can get some cat5 cable and some crimps and ends and make them ur self
