And this time it really is a c class coupe, designed to take on the 3 series coupe

Improved interior? Good thing.

Really like the look of these in Saloon form, especially with the "sport" bumpers (or whatever the Merc moniker for them is). Looks smart in 2 door form too.

I really like the new merc range compared to the last generation. C class I like in sport form, E class nice in saloon and coupe form and the S is just boss.

The C Class coupe already exists as the E class coupe. It is built on the same platform and priced to compete with the 3 series coupe.

Not sure where this new car fits? The last car actually called a C class coupe was nothing of the sort, it was a 3 series compact rivalling 3 door hatch.

CLK is the E class Coupe actually.
This is the C Class Coupe

the CL will become the S class coupe

No idea what the SL and SLK are however.

S class Roadster and E class Roadster maybe ?

they are going to have the E class (CLK) (source) and this running concurrently as the C class coupe and the E class coupe.

MB has always confused me, I get the main A,B,C,E and S class plus the 4x4's but the Coupes have always confused me - especially as they always seem 1 generation infront or behind of the saloon and don't name match half the time.

No, the CLK was the C Class Coupe. It had a C Class interior, was built on a C Class platform and was priced to compete with the E46 Coupe. Don't be confused with the fact they always tended to give it a more similar front end to an E Class.

The car named 'C Class Coupe' and later 'CLC' was a 3 door hatchback, a-la 3 Series Compact. It was a Coupe only in name and was a massively bad car.

I know it's confusing, the way Merc do it makes little sense. It gets a lot more blurry after that - there is no real 6 Series rival, neither is there really an SL rival.

That's because the 6 is really a 5 in a frock and the Sl is more of an S class level?

The 4 door coupe must be popular since Audi now have the A7, do BMW have anything lined up to compete?

The SL is a 2 seater folding hardtop 'GT' style car. The 6 Series is a full sized 4 seater Coupe or Cabrio, they are not the same really. The 6 kinda sits awkwardly at 7 Series money.

why has the CLK gone and been replaced with the E class coupe name then ?

i can quote sources till the house come home that MB have told the press that the E class coupe is a CLK replacement.

It is rather strange they would make a C-Class Coupe. They have C-Class Saloon/Estate. CLC I always thought as a BMW 3 Series Compact rival. Unless they're going to replace that with the coupe. Guess they'll probably make a soft-top model of it as well.

But then why a E-Class Coupe? I know that replaces the CLK, but...lol, so confusing.

the old CLC was more of a 1 series rival it was a hatchback type thing.
