New Camera - Which Canon DSLR to go for?

I'm well aware of that, my point was that if you are just going to buy a camera and stick one lens on it to do every focal length, there is little point in buying a single lens reflex camera. Why not just buy something smaller which has that kind of range and still produces a good image.

If that is the requirement of somebody, then an interchangeable lens camera really isn't necessary for the user.

I don't disagree with anything you said- however the OP specified DSLR. If a further requirement is a long focal length range, then my point is that superzooms should not be discounted because they produce "poor" images. In my experience they don't.

...Not necessarily true. Speed, options, accessories, price and choice all play a part.

A 'bridge' camera doesn't fulfil enough criteria for most people, especially me. I appear to be a user of one of those lenses you appear to hate. I'll try not let it bother me though ;)

If you read the thread he asks for a recommendation on a Tamron 18-270mm, which with such a wide focal range that it is considered a super zoom.

The EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II is a Telephoto Zoom covering a fairly standard zoom range, not a super zoom. It's also nearly 2k, so obviously vastly different to a £300 lens.

Oh I missed the question on the 18-270 and then there were references to bridge cameras and - I missed the point :)

In any case, in that price range I second the 18-135, for the price it's a good all round lens (currently what I own together with a nifty fifty). Took some nice 4x mountain bike racing pics with it today, some samples under sport in my flickr link below.

Going up in price, I'm also considering the EFS 15-85mm. Steeper still probably the best EFS lens out there the 17-55 f/2.8. This should give you much better IQ and low light performance but will restrict the focal range you are after.
