Hi guys,
does anyone know what the new cameras popping up on the street are for? they are usually placed not too far away from speed cameras, mounted on a high white pole and hanging up onto the road itself. They range in number from 3 to 6 I think depending on location. they are small and round in appearance.
Cheers

you thinking of these ?

or these

for former is SPECS, the speed cameras that time you between a set distance and work out your average speed over a mile or so. No slowing down for the camera then speeding off ! commonly used in road works and on the M25

the latter is a trafficmaster camera and not a speed camera at all, its used to relay traffic information for GPS devices with TMCs

I know the ones you're on about, they look like these:

Normally have 3 of them mounted on a pole facing towards traffic just after a speed camera, unfortunately I have no idea what they are for!

Aren't they something to do with a traffic survey?

They installed some crawler lane sections on the A9 in Scotland and I remember them putting similar cameras up with a sign saying something about a traffic survery.

yes they are the ones, but on the A2 in london there is a big pole being put up and am sure they'll have more than 3 cameras like that on there. They have these on the North Circ also (east side) usually in 3s. damn other ways of trying to catch us and make some more money out of us I assume.

Unless they've got big bright yellow panels next to them, they're probably either ANPR or traffic monitoring cameras.

Arent the new ones that look like that something to do with the new congestion system they are testing

Either some sort of Conjestion charge thingy, or ANPR/Traffic monitors, they wont be speed camera as they have to be made apparent at the side of the road being painted bright colours..

I know the ones too, a couple of posts with 5 or so have sprung up close to the Hoover Building on the A40 Western Avenue. I was wondering what they're for too.

No they don't ;)

I saw TrafficMaster replacing some of their old cameras with some identical to the Silver IR camera posted above on the A19 yesterday, so could just be TrafficMasters new ones :)

some of them are cameras watching the gatso so i believe

they put them in to watch .In case someone tries to destroy the speed camera

so thats what those are....fair few by my house on a nice stretch of road, thought they were some kind of speeding set up

I was always told, by no-doubt retarded people, that the blue ones were used by the police to 'watch stuff going on'. no doubt someone somewhere decided that being blue they must belong to the cops and it spread, but it's nice to know what they actually are now. Three cheers for internet!
