New car - £12/13k

I suggest that you read up on Traction Circles as your statement is very misleading. Going too fast around a corner is one way of understeering as is breaking too hard while cornering or accelerating too hard while cornering. From my admittedly limited understanding the problem with powerful FWD cars (especially turbos) is that the power is delivered very low down the rev range so it is very easy to break the traction circle especially as it is the front tyres that are trying to deliver power and steer the car. Now obviously driver aids like traction control can mask the problem and modern suspension & tyres are far better at handling big power through the front wheels but put me in a powerful FWD car and I could drive round a corner at 30mph safely and on the next attempt understeer at 20mph.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AKGAqWGpjc is a good starting point if you have no idea what I am talking about. I'm not sure if I do having just re-read my post :D

So going too fast round corners then?

The VXR is very capable round corners, try one. It might have problems if you plant it round a bend though, you need to be controlled with regards to power or the TC will kick in or it will get a bit exciting if you turn if off. Lack of LSD does not help it, especially remapped ones.

The R26 I haven't tried but constantly hear good things, although it's not as pretty as the VXR.

Sorry yes I forgot to add that I will be doing 2-3 trackdays at least and the Clio is superb on a track, especially given how much speed it can carry into bends.

I guess I'm after more of the same but with more low down torque...

Are you going to be tracking the VXR? If not then the old understeering arguement is a load of rubbish, if you are going fast enough for this in real world conditions then you probably arent going to have your license for long.

Too much abrupt torque at low speed with a reasonable steering input with no LSD isnt a license losing region in my book?

What on earth are you doing to get 24 mpg out of the Clio, you could have a faulty lambda sensor. I get 34 mpg from my 182 and that isn't being particularly easy on it.

As said, the engine in the 197s is a lot more thirsty than earlier iterations in the 182 and 172s.

I'd say give an R26 a try as well, got the low down torque you're after in an acclaimed package :)

I went for the Megane R26 in the end :)

Noooooo

Floodlight, as seen on the far right of the 2nd pic!

I even bought one without roof and bumper decals to keep it looking 'modest', so you definitely wouldn't catch me with Neons :)

Looks like a single light directly behind the car judging by the wheel shadows and interior illumination.

4 minutes behind the OP. That's poor :(

The wheels are anthracite too before anyone asks - everyone seems to think they are black!

No plans for her really, apart from a possible Stage 1 Remap at some point, but I'll enjoy it standard for a while first

It looks nice, but I can already see what I really dislike about this car - the rippling plastic of the rear windows. Just unacceptable.
