New Car...again

Given I don't know what spec your car has it is hard to find out.

It is not hard to find out.

OP would lose out on cruise and climate, which are two things I'd want on a car like this.

What is it with you, the OP has the car and is happy with it yet you insist on being an utter plum.

FACEPALM x OVER NINE THOUSAND! etc.

Have done a decent amount of time in 1.0 Ecoboost Focuses and they're a very nice place to be.
That engine is astonishing when you consider it's the size of a hair dryer. Sounds good too when you thrash it. Enjoy :)

All reassuring to hear :) especially surprised that OcUK hasn't torn me to shreds for the engine choice, that speaks volumes to me about it's reputation :p

I'm definitely going to miss the Jag and it's performance, however I won't miss the size of it. It's a pain sometimes with just how large it is, especially as I didn't get front sensors, to this day I'm never 100% with guessing where the front of the car is. It was nice to own one and in a couple of years time, I may very well go back to them given how good Jaguar Oxford have been to me.

But for now this was all about not being selfish for a change and putting my priorities straight. And spending the amount I do on this car is no issue for me when I wasn't a dad to be, but now I need to make sure that he's my main priority and as much cash as possible is free for both the immediate and long term future :)

atpbx, I think the term "no ****" comes to mind :p

They may not cost much, and I could have afforded to keep the Jaguar as I mentioned, certain costs during the year would have annoyed me but I could have managed easy enough. But a fast or showy car is no longer a priority to me, saving more money a month for my childs future and towards a deposit on a house rather than rent as we are now, these are all far more important to me.

The 1.0 is a pretty good engine, especially in 125ps guise. My wife has a Fiesta with it in and has managed 44 mpg over her first 3,000 miles (i.e. Not yet run in) doing motorway and Milton Keynes driving.

Only issue is that it's a little expensive to buy, as you found. It probably costs significantly more to build than a 1.6 or 1.8, hence the pricing follows.

Good for you. Plenty of time to get yourself back into something daft if you choose to in the future.

But you could have this, bluemotion 1.6 tdi, dad has one of these, quiet, 575 miles to a tank driven quickly, bluetooth, good MMS, etc.

I actually have issues keeping up with this on flat surfaces, it has so much more torque than my car so it is pretty even untill you get to a hill and i get on boost threshold.

You ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you beat your dad in a VAG or a Ford, winning's winning.

I think this just about sums it up. Congrats on the baby, car looks nice for what it is. I'm sure there will be plenty of time to get something more like your previous car in the future.

Nice buy :)

Babies don't cost that much.
Really?!?!
I'd estimate my 3 year old has cost us approx £70k so far.

I'd be driving around in a Ferrari 458 had I not got him, but, I'd rather have a family than drive around in a nice car.

Will put up a full review once I've had it a week :)

Will be interested to read your review!

I'm wanting to do something similar for a couple years as I have a goal of cash to save and while I can afford the monthly payments on my 3 series (62 plate), I kind of want to save more cash for now than I already am.

The ford is an option I've been looking at so after what you have come down from I am very intrigued to hear your views on the car!

nice car by the way

i'm more concern with MPG claimed by Ford. many people getting very low MPG. would be very interesting what sort of MPG you getting

i drive 2009 ford focus 1.6 (100). i get around 33mpg.

A lot of reviews I've read suggest the 56MPG claim by ford is laughable 90% of the time. Once you're at speed it's easily done by it's getting the little engine to that speed that ruins your average MPG.

Low 40's seems to be what most people achieve once which I'll still be pleased with and still an improvement on mine to be fair, given my short commute these days I was averaging around 35 in the XF

I dont understand this change at all.

You now have a rubbish car (compared to anything premium like an XF), but it is a relatively new one which wont have been amazingly cheap. Why didnt you just get an older cheaper car, for less money, if saving money is the goal?

If you want to save money, that is fine, but buying a rubbish 62 plate Ford which will suffer bad depreciation and wont have been very cheap in the first place is not the way to do it.

70k in 3 years?

I have two boys (17 and 18) and even in associated costs it's not come close to costing that.

you feed your babies with dog food?

No, babies don't cost that much.

But we've had this discussion on the forum before, usually when someone wastes money on a people carrier as soon as the missus falls pregnant, despite them having a perfectly serviceable hatch back that would be perfectly good at the job of moving 2 people and a baby around.
