New Car (Another Thread!)

Guy who bought my car came to see it in an RS4, he took me for a drive and told me his tomtom was way more reliable and easier to use than his audi satnav. Didnt say why but it did look complicated.
Well I have both so perhaps I can give my view..

First off the Tom Tom 710 I have is a lot easier to use and deals with post codes much better. On that front it has the Audi system licked. Entering journies in is also a pain on the Audi sat nav as you have to use the swivel button and select the letters, you it does predict quite well. I also liked the option to add things to the Tom Tom, which you can't do on the Audi system, but the Audi also has a very good traffic system that will re-route you if its spots traffic, which I think uses the radio transponder to pick up the issues.

In terms of look and feel its obviously much better and it also means no more ******* sticker marks or trailing cables. I wouldn't go back, though the Tom Tom is a more functional and easier to use device. I also have a 2L D S-Line................which my wife loves but I find hard work due to its poor damping and juddry ride, which is worse than my RS4!

Hi,

No, I live in Surrey, just a small close in a village :)

I remember you saying to me a while ago that you were just down the road from me, I wasn't sure where you meant, in Dorset or Surrey, either way it looks familiar :p Out of interest, where to in Surrey?

A friend of mine from work has borrowed an older 1.9TDi Avant from her workplace for the weekend, its really nice inside, dead quiet. That's just the base spec one, I imagine the S-Line is even nicer :)

I live in between Basingsoke/Fleet/Farnham/Guildford, did Live in Devon for a few years but back here now.

I will give the Audi SatNav a bit more use and see how it works, I do have traffic setup via bluetooth and my mobile on the TomTom which has worked well so far, and I can also link it to my pc and plan routes etc before getting in the car.

These look great but as a result of everyone in the entire Universe specifying a 2.0 TDI S-Line as their company car they've lost the 'Wow' factor they once had :(

...in brilliant black too :p

Ah yeah, not too far from me then, I'm over in Haslemere, was Dorset up until September 2006, then Liphook/Haslemere since then. Keep your eyes open for a Surrey meet thread ;)

Does your Audi Satnav show your current speed? That's the most useful feature to me from TomTom tbh.

Ive been in one of these they are sweet.

Do you have the LCD screen with the sat nav comp CD and mem card slot? :D

I have yes, it is nice on the satnav how the instructions appear on the dash as well, would be nice if one day the manufacturers would use tomtom and have it built it, would get the best features of both then :D

It's Phantom Black (Pearl Effect) I think, I gave 3 options for colours I would like and they gave me that, would have been happy with any of the 3 colours :)

Ah right, looks the spits of mine but perhaps it's something you need to see IRL.
