New Car delayed

Consider the situation :

New car was originally due to be picked up mid March - but last week I had a call explaining it was delayed (no explanation why, just a new date on the computer screen) until March 29th.

This is a big problem for me because I move from Cardiff to Sheffield on March 25th, so I now have to make arrangements to get back to collect the car. Also causes problems with the buyer of my current car.

Also there is the issue of them slapping 12 month road tax on it, when in actual fact I'm going to get 11 months effectively.

Given the above, what would you say is a reasonable target for haggling some extra stuff from the dealer? If you were in this situation, what would it take for YOU to be happy (suggestions from 'Nothing!' to 'a free car' and everything in between ;))

Personally i'd get them to deliver it to me. If a citroen dealership can come and collect my car for repair (nothing that stopped it driving right) over 60 miles away (I was at work, dealership is 30 miles the other direction from home), I see no reason why if you are spending a small fortune they can't deliver it.

I would definitely get them to deliver it to Sheffield for you. Perhaps a hire car for the period you'll be without a car due to there inability to fix delivery dates as well?

Tell tham that you will be unable to accept delivery until 02/04/07 & that you want it taking from 01/04/07. It's only 4 more days and you will get a months tax. Also, have you got mats etc? Bargain for anything you can.

Car has mats etc. already. Sadly I cannot wait until April to take the car as I must go back to Sheffield by then, so I *have* to collect at the end of March (it's complicated, but boring to explain).

I guess if I had to put a financial value on this disruption it would be £15 ish for the lost month in tax, around £80 for the train ticket to come back to Sheffield, £x amount in fuel to drive it back (although that's the fun part) and £x amount for the sheer hassle (i.e my time).

So I'm hoping for around about £50 - £100 by way of incentive, I don't think that's unreasonable (I accept my moving to Sheffield isn't directly their fault, but they should be receptive, given they haven't provided an excuse for the delay). I don't need the physical cash either, I'm happy to accept credit towards some options/consumables etc. Fingers crossed.

Don't worry about road tax, new cars can have a week added so you dont lose a months tax

I'd ask for the first service to be done free of charge for the inconvienience. It's something that will save you a couple of hundred pounds and in reality cost them very little.

Woah, Citroen did that for you

Incidentally, spoke to the dealer again and he confirmed that it will be taxed for 53 weeks - i.e. expires April 08.

Also a slight outside chance of it arriving this weekend, which would be good!

It was supposed to arrive in today, 4th April, but the sales guy failed to deliver his promise of calling me - this can only mean he didn't want to give me bad news, but I'll reserve judgement.

If I can collect on Friday all is forgiven! If not, I'm not going to be happy. At all.

Im guessing thats from Rydale in Cardiff?
I was amazed at how poor the service was in there compared to Rydale in Newport.

Got the car now, very happy with it. Gonna get some cashback for the delay too which is nice.

Been gunning it around Cardiff for the last two days, making good use of the sun!
