Hi Guys,

My car died the other night and from the repair quotes i have had its going to cost more to fix that its worth (10 year old seat ibiza) so I need to get a new car asap.

The position I am in means I can either spend around £1000 on a car or get a loan / finance and get something around £6000/£8000.

I do around 8000 miles per year and dont care about anything sporty, just nice and comfortable and not too slow! Ideally I would want a hatchback.

Any advice on the below...

£1000 cars (manual at this price range)
Mondeo
Avensis
Primera

£6000+ cars (must be an auto if paying this amount)
Astra
Civic
I also quite like the look of a prius!
Focus (seems a little underpowered in auto form)
Golf

Any help would be much appreciated!!

I forgot to add that the cheaper to run the better, I don't want anything that could give me a massive repair bill or costs loads on fuel and tax.

Have you thought about the Corolla. The 1.6 petrol has about 115BHP
I have the 1.4, less power but its doing 43MPG with a mixture of motorway and town.
Repair bills have been just the standard servicing and pads.

It needs a new clutch and new turbo. Also the lcd screen is buggered and if all that got fixed its still in need of a cambelt change and service.

Corrola... I will check into that one. Thanks

Because if I was getting a loan/finance I would want a car I would actually choose and enjoy and I prefer automatic cars over manuals. On a £1000 car i just want the best for my money and a manual in my experience a manual is more reliable and cheaper to fix if something goes wrong (at that price scale)

Grab a mate and break out the jack and tools?
