Now...On an old Nissan Micra (H reg), removed an after market (upgraded not long after brought) tape player to put a newer tape player in (2003) which came with our Ford Ranger.

Basicly, its hardly ever used but as we have a better tape player we mind as well upgrade the current one.

So pulled out the old one, connected up the new one (simple unplug one then plug in other) but the new Ford one won't turn on. No life in it at all. Have made sure the plugs are tightly in. Tried with the engine off/ on as the old one works without the need for the engine to be on. Still nothing.

So i'm wondering. What are the basic school boy errors. Common faults?

Half of your post makes no sense at all mate, it's very hard to understand.

Surely a Ford tape player isn't going to be a direct swap into a Nissan? I think they'll have different wiring altogether?

Have you missed out a seperate red wire (live) by chance? It could have retracted behind the dash...
