New car (That doesnt cost 25k)

I switched my S2K for my Ed30 and I'm now looking to go back :)
I've kept the Ed30 for almost 2yrs and thats a record in my car history :D

I can see why you want to come back after a bit of turbo fun.. 9000rpm & a super dooper gearbox every time :D

Although S2000 & turbo would be immense

Been doing a lot of thinking on this and the reality is getting the golf as great as it was is a bit of a random step in honesty. I'm not feeling an e36 evo as it's always going to look like nicks 700 quid 318, regardless how well it drives.

I'm going to do some serious thinking about what I can do from here. I think I should consider something like an e36 328 sport coupe for 1500/2000 and then save some serious cash coming up to the 911/house deposit fund. This would give me driver fun, cheap running as I would just service it myself, and a good track car as well as something really practical.

Getting in the golf was a mistake as it was lots more than I wanted to spend and doesn't achieve the straight swap option.

Alfa GTA in 147 or if you need glasses 156 variety.

At least you will look good when your at the side of the road with your hazards on ;)

Eh?

In a similar way that a Golf GTi is going to look like a £4,000 Diesel repmobile, no matter how 'special' it feels?

I see what he means though. To put it another way I guess he could have said it'll still look like any early 90s old beemer (which personally I like :) ).

I think the issue was more with how dated etc it looks and not necessarily how special it looks.

Is that an either/or fund? Saving for both at the same time must surely end up being a huge compromise on both?

I don't mean to sound like I'm having a go but this is one of the weirdest new car threads we've seen. Starting with how you suddenly decide on christmas day that you need to worry about getting a new car through to the random choices and then finally the bombshell that you are just killing time until a 911 anyway.

and a 330ci is ? and an s2000, or an R32 golf ?

R32's are insanely thirsty unless you never hit the loud pedal.

No-one suggested an R32, the GTI was pushed, but is far too dull, the S2000 is his current car, so why would he be looking to change his S2000 for an S2000, and the 330Ci will be abut the same as he is paying now.

A heavily modified VW asshat won't be anywhere near the same level of running cost.

I made this point in his last bizarre 'One day I might perhaps spend £25k on a sports car please spec me one incase I buy it in 18 months time' thread.

I think he needs to stop caring what other people think, some trying to make us all think 'Whoa, he might drive cheap cars atm but one day he might own a Porsche' and just... buy whatever he wants without having to justify his position to the world.

I copped some flack for suggesting this last time but I think its even more obvious now that there is a lot of 'I might have to consider a £1500 328i Sport BUT IM SAVING FOR A HOUSE/PONY/Lambo/747-400!!1111'

It's just completely random.

Lol. I think fox has summed it up well

I remember the car choice dilema when he had the puma, took about 3 yrs
