Well I've finally managed to get hold of a car I've wanted for a while. It's a bit of a shed, but that's fine as I'm only after the one part to put in my 205, the plan is to give it a complete rebuild and a set of carbs on the way.

I'll get some better pictures at some point soon.

Engine piccys please !!

Whats the insurance like on that car ??

EDIT :

Do you mean that People take the engines out of the 205 , and put them into the 405, because i always thought the 405 Mi16 was a factory car therefore it came out of the box " Mi16'd "

Nope, people take Mi16 engines from 405 Mi16's to put into 205's.

Thus we now have the curious situation whereby 205 Mi16's are everywhere yet genuine 405 Mi16's are very hard to find :(

Will get engine pics in the morning when it's light.

Firestar: This 405 is knackered, would require sooo much work to get through an mot let alone be nice that it's not really worth saving.

As much as I love 205's, it seems a shame to take another 405 Mi16 off the road.

edit: just read the above, still how bad is it?

Fair play then, if its a total shed of a 405 with bad sills and the such then saving the engine is alright :)

Just a shame those people who take a good Mi16 405 and take its engine out.

Honestly... imo

I loved that chassis... now ive driven plenty of cars.. owned plenty...

But...

Ive still got a soft spot for the 405's chassis.

It just feels right.

Same thing is happening with the Rover 220 and 420 GSi Turbo's.

All the MG ZR boys are buying the genuine GSi Turbo's, nicking the engines and scrapping the rest of the car.

:(

The difference is that the ZR is a fake and the only true 200 is the wedge Mk2 200.

:p

Idiots and chavs own ZRs, enthusiasts own wedges.

I've seen more chavs in 'wedges' than ZR's, probably on account of the fact a 'wedge' costs about 400 quid and a ZR about £4000, which is £3600 more than the average chav has to spend anyway :p

That's certainly not the case around here, not anymore anyway.

I went to a meet in Blackpool in October, and the ZR 'boyz' had taken over. Big wheels, loud exhausts, huge boomy subs in the boot... they were basically giving the whole meet a bad reputation.

There was a group of us stood a good distance away from them, we all drove 200 hatches or coupes.

Ah well, hopefully when all the chav's cars start getting HGF and they scrap them, there'll be more spare parts for me ;)

The 405 Mi16 is a very good sporting saloon. The 205 Mi16 conversion is a hot hatch weapon. It really does transform the little 205, probably something you wouldn't appreciate until you'd driven normal and Mi16 205's back to back. No wonder people scrap the 405 for the engine.
