New car time

I don't really want to go above 2L as I still have to pay my petrol and that RS 2.5 would be harder to insure I'd assume and more costly to run.

They're fairly similar size, power and target market. They aren't going to have much differences in running costs. Try an insurance quote on both of them and they'll probably come out much the same. Don't expect fuel economy in the astra to be much better than the RS either. The reason I suggested the RS is because it will lose less money when you come to sell, giving it a much lower overall running cost.

I would never spend that kind of money on a car at that age let alone a vauxhall... If you're looking for luxury then have a look at some German cars (BMW/Merc/Audi). No point in getting a quick car in London as the quickest you will be going is ~20 with constant stop start traffic

The key word in the OP is 'Astra', I hear that and say 'nope'.

Get a 10 year old BMW 330ci for 3-5k, lots of gadgets, lots of power, insurance isn't that bad.

Thanks - going to have a look. Looking at an RS, ST2, GTC and a Audi a3 Sportback. Going to check quotes on all of them. I'm guessing most of you would chose a good speced A3 over a GTC any day?

The ST2 looks interesting, friends got one and they are nippy.

How quick are the EcoBoost 1.6 engines?
