Right, Im in need of 4 new tyres. I'm looking at 205/55/R15V's but I do not know which brand of tyres are the best. They are to be fitted to an R Reg Volvo S40 TD which does approx 18,000 miles a year. Obviously the car isn't one of the quickest around (infact sometimes I think I could out run it!) so the tyres do not need to be performance related, but I would like low road noise and comfort, along with good safety...

So any recommendations?

i thought old(ish) volvo's had audi TD engines and very quite 'nippy' ;)

I would go with those rock hard fuel saver tyres if your not bothered about performance

Hydragrip for the win. ALL my vehicles use these now. They are far superior in the wet to anything else I've had and in the dry they are not far off the best.

If you buy the tyres off mytyres how much is it likely to cost to get them fitted and to get the wheels balanced etc? I wouldn't have the first clue where to start with fitting tyres. Would I be better just buying the whole package at once?

Anychance you could tell me where to get the hyrdagrips online? I cant seem to find them for 205/55/R15V, etyres and mytyres only have the NCT5's

10.50 for each tyre including new valve

I used eventyres for the last set I had fitted. More expensive but included is fitting and they send out a mobile van to do it. This is very convenient!

check blackcircles.com - I think you can get prices that include fitting there.

heh ironically the garage they say that will fit is the one I was going to anyway as it was recommended when I had my mot...

My recommendation is Goodyear Hydragrips :)

Yup, so good in fact that when i turned in quickly on a roundabout in my Astra estate company car i had oversteer :D

This was in the wet with Hydragrips fitted to the front, other make on the back and i didn't really chuck it in either, increased speed and turned in :)

Great in the dry as well.
