New car wanted! Any advice?

The problem is that 'sod it and stick with the focus' is clearly the best overall option at your price point, unless you start finding some more cash to get a different motor that is [a] fuel efficient as reliable as the focus and [c] is more comfortable for your back. The other problem is that the difference in seating quality between a Focus on whatever else you can afford isn't particularly great unless you buy something really old and a more costly drive to maintain. . . . . I'm just saying no point in getting snarky with the others in the thread when we're pointing out the best option to you imho.

Ta

Just looking on eBay you buy all the Recaro seats pulled out of a used ST for around £200 and they should be a straight swap but I would pay your local garage to do them if I was you it’s probably more tricky than it sounds. Try and find an ST for sale somewhere to test the seats.

Cool, will have a look around

Im 6ft 5, drive a 9th Gen Honda Civic 1.8 petrol, easily gets me 47MPG if driven sensibly, seating positions nice and upright with plenty of adjustability, huge boot, magic seats and you can pick up a nice 2012 model for a reasonable amount per month.

Cheers,will see what's about then :)

And don't forget to declare them to your insurer as well :)

I would try different car seats before you do anything. I had back pain for a couple of years after a bad mountain biking accident, it didn't matter what car (or chair) I was in I would get back pain within 20-30 minutes. I just got used to it after a while luckily I don't suffer too much now.

Yes of course any modification should be declared. Knowing what insurance companies are like they will see a golden opportunity to bend him over the barrel and charge him for having a full ST replica :D

If your not part of the 6ft + club you will not understand! :D

True.

Personally, I have long femurs meaning I need to sit quite far back, which then means I need the steering wheel to come out.

Focus' do this, but sometimes even they don't come out far enough.

Then, if I move the seat forward, I end up just banging my knees on everything.

:D

I have a memory foam cushion coming for the interim, I'll look into car seats, but still after any further recommendations :)

For 6-7k you'd get a fairly respectable Skoda Superb. Plenty of space, 50+mpg 170BHP engine out of the Octavia VRS diesel and in Elegance form you get electric heated leather seats! - Link

Thanks for the suggestion :)

Well, memory cushion arrived, that was an unpleasant journey in...however I could tell it was going to be bad before I even got in the car this morning, so for all I know it's just my back adjusting.

Going to be a good day

at 6 foot height isn't the issue tbh. it's your back. so you don't need bigger than a focus.

someone mentioned lower seats that is only going to make it worse. what exactly is wrong with your back? can't a chiropractor help?

vw passat estate sounds like exactly what you are looking for tbh. however you can't really afford one. well not a modern one anyway. maybe the skoda equivalent?
