New Car … where to start?

Never really understood the fascination for the A class, personally i think you're just buying a badge. For my money, id be looking at something like a Superb Sportline Plus. Big and comfortable for those trips.

I've been really disappointed with Kia, I've recently purchased a Kia ceed and have had issues with it and the dealer, the road noise and interior rattles is horrendous and our Audi although 10 years older is nicer.

With the issues and the car going back I've had courtesy cars from them and had a brand new Kia ceed, and our 18 year old Audi was still nicer, granted it had more room than our Audi, but the road noise was worse, the interior quality was not as good could really notice some of the corners cut to keep the price low, the steering and feedback through the wheel was really vague and off putting with how light it felt.

I've not driven the rest of the range so couldn't comment on others, but with the disappointment of the brand new ceed, it's really put me off the others.

My uncle is a driving instructor and part of a loose collection of other driving instructors they kind of operate individually but use their collective buying power and/or cover each other for holidays and that kind of thing, anyhow they had some kind of deal with Kia come up for the cars they use and were sold cars by the dealer that according to Kia were supposedly suited for tuition use only to have no end of trouble, IIRC he was on his 4th within weeks when we were talking about it, turned out the hybrid system when stalled as often as a learner car was blowing through its on paper lifespan in 6 weeks or less. Kia or the dealer, I'm not sure which, did actually replace them with cars without the system at their own cost but they've had quite a few issues, I don't think any of them are happy with swapping away from their previous Citroens which they had no real problems with.

I would get a car around 4-6 years old if possible as this is the ""sweet spot" for price/best bang for buck

Toyotas are very reliable

Corolla (medium size) or Yaris (small) is a good start

don't discount Honda either (also Japanese)
and there is always a Mazda 2 or Mazda 3
