Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI Elegance 5-Dr Hatchback.

im going to go and test drive it later its on an 03 plate with 25k on the clock it has the 110bhp engine and it seems well equiped anyone know what i should look out for. its from a main dealer and it comes with 12 month warranty and 1 year tax but they are looking for £8999 which is a bit over priced so i'll have to knock them down a bit.

I don't know if it's me, but that sounds way over priced. Even if it is a main dealer, I'd be looking to pay £7500 max from a dealer, but really you could have one for nearer £6000 but you might have to compromise on mileage.

Edit: I've just checked my local VW place, and they've got in a 52 Plate Passat Sport PD130 with a little more miles on it (40 odd) for the same money.

£8999 would be paying VW/Audi money for a Skoda...

I must have been looking at the wrong car, the values I saw were £8460 from an independant and more from a main dealer.

Edit: I think you'll be pushing it to get 1.5k off

i'll just have to see what i can do they have a vrs at the same money but the insurance is a killer what is the 110hp tdi engine like anyway.

chip it, its the AVG 1.9TDI 8 valver, should see 150bhp and all the torque in the world if your worried about power. them engines are bomb proof!

I know you can get 200bhp from the 130bhp version with a re-map.

Compared to the 130PD or 150PD its ok, but not great. The other 2 engines are different design, using Pumpe Deuse (PD) technology, they produce more power (obviously) more torque and are nicer to drive. I've owned cars with both the 110 and 130 engines and have driven the 150 and out of the lot the 130 is by far the best :)

I agree. I've had a bit of driving a 110 TDI and its pretty good, but the PD130 in the Fabia VRs I drove was much better IMO.

If you were to look at remapping, the 110 should get and extra 30-35bhp, with the PD130 you can get an extra 45-50bhp from them.

A friend of mine has a Golf with the PD150 engine in it, and thats been remapped - very rapid!

If it were my ~£8000 I'd be looking at a Passat PD130 Sport, or maybe an A4 of the same flavour.

i was massivley under whelmed with the PD engines...

Drove a Leon FR (150PD, 6 Speed) and was like... is that it. Possibly due to the weight of the Leon...

The whole point in Skoda is exceptional value for money.

A 3 year old Octavia diesel for £9000 is NOT exceptional value for money. You could get something from the class above for that - a Passat TDI if you are a VAG fan, Mondeo TDCi if you want something decent to drive, perhaps a Mazda6..

Sod all this 2nd hand stuff, you could buy a brand new Corsa for £9k ;)

ive just looked at my local vw garage sites and the passats are more expensive and the cars come with less kit and smaller alloys as standard. i know i can get cheaper if i go private but i would prefer to use a main dealer plus the vw only comes with 30 day warranty and the skoda comes with 12 months. i'll check out the local audi sites now

It depends if you're prepared to look a little further afield or compromise on other factors, This is at a VW franchise dealer. Probably offers the same amount of kit as the Octavia, a better engine, and is the same price.

I'm not saying you should get a Passat over the Ocativa - but as Fox said the point in Skoda is VAG quality at Skoda prices. The Octavia you're looking at is a Skoda at VW prices.

If you can get it for £7500, and you're happy then go for it. But >£8000 is too much, Skoda dealer or not.

thats what i said on my first post that if a i could knock them down £1500 quid it would be a good buy. ive got a little 1.25 zetec fiesta at the min that serves me well so i might go round my local ford dealer and see what mondeos they got. it would be the tdci id have my grandad bought the 2.2 tdci st model 5 weeks ago on a 55 plate the lucky git.

that passat is very nice i do need somthing bigger as im 6ft 2" and 16 stone and when i got the wife next to me as well it is a bit cramped not saying shes fat or owt but u know how it is.

My dad has the octavia,he bought it new on a 51 plate and it only cost him £11000 new !!! and yes its the tdi model.Goes well tho and the boot is huge.

I think I'm right in saying that the Passat is (inside at least) much bigger. The Octavia IIRC is VW Golf based, the Skoda equivalent to the Passat is the Superb is it not?

Mondeo's are certainly worth a look, £7000 should see you in a 52 Ghia X TDCi 130 (Or a Zetec at very least) - but I wouldn't bank on it having low miles such as the Octavia, but that in itself is not necassarily a problem.

With your budget you could pick up a fantastic Mondeo TDCi Ghia / Ghia X. Very nice inside and go like stink (relatively) Also theres about 1000000000 of them out there so you can really take your pick of them.
