Well, I love my focus but the 100bhp is not really enough so when I'm 21in a couple of months Im going to buy myself a birthday present. My car should fetch 5 grandand I could borrow upto annother 5 comfortably I reckon. even more at a little bit of a stretch but dont really want to stretch because of maintenance, unless it was a nicer car justifying keeping it an extra year for the loan. Whatever it is I want it to hold its value reasonably well so its still worth something when the finance is paid. dont mind paying upto a grand for insurance, have 4yrs NCB (hopefully). Oh and I love the idea of a convertable and dont really need 5 seats or practicality, live at home, dont av to do shopping, girlfriend will be driving hopefully by then anyway!

My options are - Clio 172/182 - rattles and build quality
-E36 M3 - maintinence costs and insurance costs
- nice S1 elise - insurance again, reliability??
- early Vx220
- Celica T-sport 190
- Mazda Mx5 - amazing in every way but not at home with the looks, bit girly.

Feel free to offer any new ideas, as you can see I'll consider anything sporty, definetly dont want a barge!

hmmm that would be very nice, love the interior. a black or blue one.... hmmm whats the service interval? I'll get my mate to service it, but is there any big money surprises before 120k. Just a cambelt i presume, what mileage? Think it would cost a lot more to run than most of my other cars but very nice....

I will be fine with a 328 :D
seriously though I am after something with a bit of poke, have done a few track days in cars, lots on bikes and feel I am a brisk but mature driver for my age. I have 4 years no claims, will be 21 and live in a good area so may not be too bad. have to run a quote. Would be my first rear driver though. also I bet Im looking at 25mpg ish arent I and big new rear tyres often! There are more sensible fast options, but I do like this idea!

hmm. Well I got a quote on the clio sport for 800 and the mx5 for 750 might try one on the bimmer and 200sx big high 5 from me on the phone number! Maybe with some nice 16" (dont wanna spoil the handleing) and some lowerage (not much) it would be a bit more manly. Im really confused too many directions to go.

the none CI ones dont quite do it for me as much, but Id imagine for the price difference I will get a lower mileage example and could afford some shiny ACS wheels! :D lol Oh god I really have no Idea, Im ranging from MX5 to 328 and literally everything else in between, still have a soft spot for clios but there french!!

Id love a DC2 aswell, so theres annother on to put on the list Im partial to a bit o V-tech so theres annothe to add to the list. think Im in double figures on options now!

that is gorgeous(ITR) and the Mx5 is very nice 2 (if riding a bit high), very tempted. The 328CI is also an option as it would be £926 a year. your right, I may better off spending less. I think its 328/mx5/DC2/200sx... oh god I have no idea what I want! I still have a soft spot for clio 182's but now fancy a rear driver. why cant an MX5 be a little more manly and be more like 160/180 bhp then it would be a no-brainer.

OK, the comment about BMW getting boring quick may rear its head. I think the MX5 would look good with some nicer 16"ers and some new dampners /springs to lower without spoiling then it would look a lot better. The turbo would be an option if I felt I needed more. The DC2 would be enough anyway and I like Vtecs, my mate has a stripped seam welded civic VTI track car with an integra engine and 1500 quids worth of suspension. now that shifts and handles like nothing I have ever been in(on Toyo R888 semi slicks). So I think those 2 are winning at the mo. Both should be reliable, running costs not too high. One's got no roof and is well balanced, one is absolutely mental and has a roof. hmmmm Plenty to think about. Open to new offers! lol

but then at the same time

I think seeing that in black may have sold it for me. I like the idea of having no roof, But then theres the DC2 which would scratch a totally different itch. They both should hold good money to. hmmm These can be got cheaper and cost less to keep on the road than the beemer, dont fall to bits like the clio, arent french and should hold their money. so its roof handleing and power, vs no roof handleing and balance is it?
Can I phone a friend?

lol, the beemer would be lovely, but I think the mx5 and IR would keep me entertaind for longer. Not sure. If they both had roof's it would be the ITR for sure, but the idea of a 2 seater drop top sounds good!

I dont know, that beemer, there is some really nice 328's out therewhich I can insure happily at £900. If I dont go for the CI then there really is loads and cheap both fast and practical. and apparently 30mpg isnt that hard to acheive. thats about what Im looking at for any of these cars. I wish I could insure a e36 M3! that would do me! but a nice 328ci isnt to be sniffed at. It will probably hold value better than the rest of them aswell. Its seems to cover all bases except service costs. I think Mx5/DC2/328 have to have some test drives. Ive got a month or 2 to mull it over and change my mind 250000 times.

if I do go the mx5 route it will be a sport. If I'm not mistaken they have a 6 speed box, wich probably helps accelaration. 140 in a light car is respectable and It can be improved if needs be so why not. I dont think Id spend 10k on one though. plenty of very nice ones about for 7-8k

So its lookin like this

Hmmm, all very nice, wouldent mind owning any of them! 3 very different cars, case of deciding what I want from the car and that will decide it for me. got a couple of months.

I quite like the look of it, especially with the 2.5 engine in it. whats that engine like? about the same power wise to the 2.8 did it replace it? all the later non 330 ci's are 325's, 328's are the earlier ones, which is the one to have?

6-7k for a M3, plenty left for insurance :p

im sure someone out there will insure him for near on 3.5k

just did a quote on an M3 evo £2800 lol not throwing all that away on insurance when a 328/325/integra etc... is only going to cost me £900. Interestingly, the 325(wether ti/ci or just saloon) is £80 more a year than an equivalent 328.

The idea of a quick beemer is growing on me, even a 323 or 320 isnt to be sniffed at then. Think I want the 325/328 though!

I do like this idea. I take it its a big thing not to be put off by mileage on these Beemers. Just look for good condition and FSH. Take it these engines go forever with little drama.

that is a very good point. Im not too sure on that score. on a saxo, 100000 is a bit scary, but these aint exactly saxo's are they.

I am very tempted by some of these 325/328's with the mtech/msport kits on them they look lovely!
