Not quite a new car, but insurance is up next month and 21 in January. So hoping to get myself a 'performance car', hoping to spend about 5k in January time. But I can't decide what I want, like golf gti 1.8t, leon cupra, astra sri T.

Any advice on what to get around that price range, preferably something low mileage as want to keep it at least a good 7-8 years.

I thought you wanted a performance car, so why have you listed some run-of-the-mill family hatchbacks?

And 7-8 years of ownership!? I think you'd get bored of almost any car in that timeframe!

get a Lexus Soarer twin turbo you can get one for around £4,000 or the 4.0 ltr GT is fast and the same price..
awsome car

Funny you should mention the Soarer. Had no idea what it was until I chased one down the bypass recently. No indication as to which model it was, seemed fast enough but had to pass it in the end ;)

Rare, Japanese, value, V6! Good suggestion tbh!

Although not my personal cup of tea.

Actually they come in either Straight 6 or V8 ;)

true Straight is the turbo and the V8 the 4.0 ltr GT
oh and by the way you can get active suspension on air wich is cool

and he let you pass ;)

i have seen my old one around brum the reg is J666 LSX yep the devil :D

Straight 6 yes! Force of habit saying V6 :) Loads of revisions on engines/specs during its almost 10 year run I see.

I looked up the stats after I saw it, if I remember correctly the TT is the quicker version, V8 is the 'cruiser'? Both have stock manufacturer performance figures just under mine, though, but 4k can get you a lot of motor these days it seems - and a very tunable one!

Only on OcUK can someone asking for recommendations about warm hatches be recommended a 4.0L Toyota Soarer. ;)

The cars you're looking at aren't exactly "performance" cars.

Oh and you won't be finding nice examples for £4000.

Mk1 Focus maybe? My 2.0L mk1 was always fun. :D

Argh ffs why does everyone on OCUK seem to think hatchbacks are "family" cars. They are driven in most cases by teenagers or women.

Depends what the OP drives already. I know when I moved from a 1.6 Clio to a 182 Trophy I felt I was moving into the world of performance cars.

(and there I'll stay :))

I'm driving a 1.25 fiesta at the moment! I didn't mean crazy performance car, something a step above my car, wouldn't be hard.

But obviously nothing stupit where my insurance is going to laugh at me!

Yeah I say 7-8 years now, but I ain't kept a car for longer than a year yet! :p
