Hi

Finally getting my new 8800GTS 512 and i was wondering should i rebuild with a clean OS. I know i can probably just use drive cleaner and remove any old ATI software but i haven't reformated in a long time. I would probably see a good benefit from a clean install?

Cheers

Should be OK just driver cleaning and bunging the new card in.

In the last month i've changed my mobo 3 times, and had 3 different GPU's in there and i've not had to reinstall yet... (XP 32Bit), and that's on a year old install.

Still running smooth as a babys posterior.

Sorry one other thing. Is this probably the right drivers to use.

161.21's

Or will the CD be an updated one? Read somewhere it probably best to get it from the site rather than use the ones that come with it.

Well my new GTS just arrived today and i am

very very very disappointed and not at all pleased.

It is evident that the item received is in a used condition. Can't say too much atm but i take it most would return it? I am certainly go to do that. Must add this is not ocuk btw :D *probably should have bought it here* if they stocked it.

Looking forward to the Highlight of the day and well currently feel totally blown out of the water. :(

I went from a 1950pro to 320mb gts to 512mb gts with just uninstalling drivers, rebooting and installing the new ones.

This drivercleaning/os reinstall in nonesense in my opinion.

Using Vista 64.

Just checked the item over.

(i)The box is in a used condition.
(ii)The graphics card itself was in a very small (probably wrong sized) anti-static bag with the paper seal broken. One of the metal fins has punched a whole through the bag.
(iii)Screw mark on the metal front panel showing it has been plugged into a motherboard before
(iv)The molex power adapter was free of any packaging as was the VGA to DVI adapter.
(v)Also the discs were also in a used condition.

Not impressed at all!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Thats quite bad, My BFG 8800 GTS from OcUK came in a box that was a little battered from delivery but at least it was all in brand new condition. That should be sold as B-grade stock, not resold as new because it clearly isn't, I'd ask for a full refund (including any costs you had to pay) and buy it elsewhere.

Could have just been an error on their part.

Id give them a call, or drop them an e-mail explaining, and they'll probably tell you just to send it back to have it replaced, and also ask them if they'll pay the postage back to you as well, which they should do really seen as its not your fault. :)

Yeah thinking that too hope i don't have to fork out extra dosh for the carriage as i hope to get that back at the very least!

*again not ocuk btw* :D if this breaches any rules than i will be quiet :D

Loads - cheers mate. Going to do exactly that tomorrow.

As long as you don't mention said place, its fine. :)

Also, theres no need to do a re-install really, just go to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and remove the ATi drivers, then switch off, swap cards, switch on and boot into safe-mode, run DriverCleaner pro to remove any left overs, then reboot normally, cancel the Found New Hardware Wizards, then install the Nvidia drivers.

Hope you get it sorted. :)

Nothing has ever happened to me by switching cards, have had 4 different cards on this single install of Vista 64-bit, and had as far as i remember 2 or 3 cards on the XP before it.

Well after long convoluted process i just got my replacement back.

Opened a new, packed box and here was more like what i was expecting. :)

Fresh packing, new smell, hardly creased static bag with the factory label still flat and crisp.

All the cd/leaflets etc nicely packed away filed vertically in the packing. :D

They were kind enough to cover the reshipping but lets just say even with the cost covered it not exactly a thing i want to go over again. That is 2 weeks now almost when i first ordered to finally get a brand new card..

Going to fire it up now and see how well it goes. Can't Wait!!!

Wow that must have been the longest time it ever took me to fit a graphics card. It really was a tight squeeze. Finally got it in, in one piece, was very careful but in the end finally slotted in.

LoL - not use to NOT having the huge jumbo jet engine take off simulation from the ATI stock cooler 1900XT (with 1st edition cooler)

Anyway installed it and everything seems to be up and running. One query went into the nvidia panel and checking on the temp menu it says i have to install something ntune is that like the old cool bits add on for overclocking etc.? and is there anything i need to know to configure it to get best optimization?

=========================================

Hmm :( i just noticed my card should be the oc version instead of the normal clocks

ie 730 Core/1825 Shader/1944 Mem

But from what i can tell

678 Core/ (dunno where to look for shader settings) / (972 x 2) = 1944 for Mem

That does not look like what the speed for the factory oc edition ? Have i been duped? Or am i mistaken and it is merely running slower cause of 2D mode or something.?

sorry been a while since i used nvidia drivers :D

Cheers

Hmm try downloading rivatuner and see what it says :)
Just bump the core up manually, it should work just fine, if you don't want to RMA it back, my GTS did quite fine regardless of being a completely standard model.

arghhh now i can't play avi files wt*?

Is this a bug as it coming like it cannot use the codec. Just reinstalled them to see if it makes a difference but sadly not :(

Please help!

This is what i get whenever i play any videoplayback. Reading somewhere it to do with output. Currently using k-lite full.

It'll be an item someone has returned under the DSR after having used it.

Funny how everyone seems to expect retailers to take items back and give a full refund even if they've been used, yet don't stop to think that someone else is going to receive said item when they've ordered a brand new one.

This is the reason the DSR doesn't give you the right to use an item and then return it, regardless of individual supplier policies or hearsay from the guy down the pub. If the item is used then it cannot be sold again as new and why should the supplier take the hit because you changed your mind? Simple logic.

To the OP, not criticising you at all here - you ordered a brand new item and should have received one. You're obviously the victim of an idiotic supplier who has accepted this card back from a previous customer without checking it was unopened and unused and has now tried to sell it to you.
