NEW CARD

Yeah have to admit if you overclock the GTO it will be faster than a stock x1900, man i keep forgetting that overclocked cards will be faster than stock ones, and we all know the x1900 can not be overclocked so get the GTO, x1900's can only do stock.

come on!

The GTO will be the better card than the 256 mb as its a disguised GTX.Wether both cards are overclocked or not.

Deal with it! :D

Right then kiddies lets be serious :p

Taking into account the AVERAGE maximum overclocks achievable on both cards (I'm guessing from all the buzz about the GTO, it will have a higher % overclock on average).

Which one is faster in most games.

Simple ;)

impossible to tell as different cards of the same model + different CPU`s in those systems allow people to attain different results which is why trying to sell a card on its overclocking pottential alone is useless in my opinion, if a card has a reputation for clocking well then thats a bonus but stock base level performance is more important.

Id say theyre probably about even given that they both hold their own in different tests. However, if youre gaming at a res that requires 512mb, then the GTO is the way to go if you are short on funds.

If you simply must have HDR and AA though, the XT is the right choice.

Its all down to funds and preferences in the end. Theyre both top cards. This bickering goes on in loads of threads, its getting tiring.

X1900 Cards cannot be clocked up hmmmm ?

Then explain why my lovely little HIS X1900GT has gone from 575/600 to 675/775 (XTX Speeds) ???

(Not to mention I hit 5600 in 3DMark06).

ROFL, I'm sure the flames will follow

ATI = superior image quality. imho and the opinion of many others.

However, and this may come as a shock, a surprise or anything but painfully obvious:
Overclock XT to XT-X speeds and it will spank the GTO at stock speeds
Overclock the GTO and it will spank the XT at stock speeds.

Seriously, imho the ATI is the better card. I'm sure there are those that disagree.

Google for reviews and benchies of the cards you have in mind then form your own opinion.

I personally have switched between Nvidia and ATI since the GeForce 256. Depending on which card I thought offered the best speed/value for money at the time. I use ATI now, but when I next upgrade I will be checking out both ATI and Nvidia.

Good luck. There will always be fans of a particular manufacturer, and these people, while not trying to pull the wool over your eyes are often biased toward the technology they chose to use. No one wants to admit they bought a cow. Not that either of these two cards is in any way naff.

so the Nvidia owners always say, they always say that an overclocked Nv card will beat a stock ATi one, so obviously ATi cards can not be clocked at all, they must remain stock at all times. :D

Hey I'm just curous and I'm sure the OT would like to know which ones faster. :)

When I said, "on average". I think you can get a rough estimate of average overclocks for a specific card, take the X1900 XT, it can't clock for anything. Wherars the XTX version can.

I've read threads saying, don't bother getting an XTX as the XT can clock to XTX speeds easily. Thats as maybe, but the difference is so small thats not the point. The point is the XTX can clock well above XTX speeds.

I'm just talking in rough terms here...

Abit like the 7900s can clock a hell of a lot more than 7800s. That is a definate case of "most cards being 7900s will clock a higher percentage than 7800s maximum".

Just asking, if things aren't like that for the GTO\XT and it really is that variable, then I'm sorry for all this typing. :)

Looks like their pretty simialr then from what people are saying overall?
