NEW CARD

Has anyone got some screen comparisons of this supposed better image quality on the X1900?

I too am considering both these cards :)

yup, they are, but ATi still grab the title by a whisker due to being able to use HDR+ AA and having an image quality thats far better than its Nvidia counterparts, its very very noticeable when Anti Aliasing is turned on too.

I've read threads saying, don't bother getting an XTX as the XT can clock to XTX speeds easily. Thats as maybe, but the difference is so small thats not the point. The point is the XTX can clock well above XTX speeds.

Thats true also, but I read on here some guy flashed his X1900XT to XTX which gave him more volts to play with and allowed him to get superb clocks :)

Also, just checking the prices, the XTX's are only a tenner more than the XT 512! So if youre looking at the 512 XT, may aswell get the XTX :D

some good answers there guys - i think its looking like the ATi card is the way to go - ive always had Nvidia so it will be a nice change - anything i should be doing before i install the Ati like deleing the old drivers etc?

Uninstall the drivers. Run Drivercleaner, reinstall new card, drivers...done! :D

when you say reconsider, i presume you mean "consider not buying it???" that entire Image quality report was just page after page of ATi`s features stomping Nvidias...

Some Quotes from the first 6 pages...


ATi:
  • ATI offers a higher tri-linear filtering quality

  • Easy to see, the ATI High Quality AF algorithm is beyond competition here. It provides the best anisotropic filtering available today, which you can’t have on an Nvidia GeForce 7-series card.

Can I throw another card into the barrel and ask what the difference is between the 7950GT and the 7900GTO?
 
:( :( :( I'm in the exact same boat and am sooo confused. I'ts a toss up between a 2nd hand x1900xt and a new 7900gto.

As both ALMOST ALWAYS overclock to their respective bigger brothers it's a case of x1900xt-x vs 7900gto.

However bang for buck wise I don't think you can argue with the 7900gto. It's practically a 95% guaranteed gtx!

Are the image quality diff between the gto and the xt apparent in actual gameplay? The Asgard went from an xt to a gto and had no complaints..

Correct :)

Although whether I'll manage to pluck up the 70 extra notes for 512mb for the X1900XT or not is another story altogether. Either that or wait and get lucky with finding a 2nd hand one for under £200.

sit tight for 4 weeks, then r600 / g80 arrive there will be boat loads being flogged off. i may pick one up myself for crossfire :) (i have a HIS X1900XT 512mb master card)

lol, its hard i know... i only have an X1900 master by shear fluke anyway, i didnt actually buy it as such but i will keep ahold of it for another 10 months.
