New case = system failure…

Hi guys,

I fitted up my old, working system into my new Antec P182 case last night and now my system in dead…

Everything has been fitted like-for-like and I cleared the CMOS before booting etc.

Now all I get is my machine freezing/rebooting itself at the point of the Windows XP loading screen – the blue blocks just stop moving, or they stop moving and the machine reboots :(

Safe Mode is fine – I’m now actually in the process of backing up and I’m planning to do a rebuild this avo if nothing else works.

After trying a few times last night with no joy, I tried this morning and the machine booted first time, fine, but about 10 mins into my session, during the writing of an email I got a BSOD – something about a machine error I think?

Before I hit format, is there anything else I can try? It’s too nice outside to be indoors all day watching XP install :p

Cheers,

SW.

Reseat all components, you may of knocked something when you were changing cases.

Double check all cables. Disconnecting and reconnecting may of jarred something loose.

The other possibility is that the board is shorting on the new case. Check for loose screws et cetera. Did you fill use all the mobo holes?

Yeah I thought that could be a possibility? I removed all the add-on cards but I didn't remove the cpu or the ram - maybe that could be causing the problem... Wouldn't that give me grief in Safe Mode tho

Yep, again worth a shot? But again, wouldn't that be giving out signs in Safe Mode?

I'm using all nine of the pre-fitted silver Antec risers, I don't think there should be any problems there?

sounds like an overheating problem check everything again m8
Shouldn't be a problem? The new case is a lot cooler than the last one I had, and atm I'm not overclocking - I'm using the default values of everything after clearing the CMOS :)

if you knocked your hsf when instlaling then u wont have good contact so would overheat in 10 mins and answers why you could cold boot fine tbh

also the pre installed raisers was there 9 installed or 12 some have more installed than needed

Phewww, I think I've solved the mystery :p

After trying different memory configurations, re-seating my cpu/hsf and still getting the same problem I resorted to re-seating my gpu...

Sorted!

I think? 30mins+ atm. Fingers crossed :)

Thanks for your help people - always appreciated!
