New Chair Needed For Back Pain

So this time last year I purchased a DXRacer as I needed a new chair.

I do have back pain from time to time which was not caused by the chair.

Now I'm looking into selling this and buying a chair as I am suffering with back pain more frequently as I don't feel the chair supports my spine as much as I would like.

Any Suggestions out there for a comfy chair that is intended for long use that will support the back?

Cheers

Steelcase Leap works for me I have problems myself, the back is adjustable it tilts back relative to the seat and has adjustable lumber support, best chair I've ever had, or the most comfortable at anyrate

Why would you say the Formula wasn't the best choice? Where is your back pain exactly? Where your back is causing you problems precisely will influence chair selection, very much so.

The Nitro Concepts range looks like it is well padded and also well priced, as do some of the more expensive DX Racer ones, such as the King Series. I would advise seeing someone about your back though... backs are very funny things, and it may be referred pain from somewhere else you're not even aware of. I've suffered with that myself in the past, and it's only through seeing an expert you can begin to address the root cause. Simply buying a more padded chair isn't necessarily going to resolve the problem, and in all likelihood will only mask it. Just speaking from personal experience anyway, and sorry if you know all this already lol! :)

DXRacers aren't really ergonomic chairs, most people have no issues with them as the majority are relatively young with no back issues. Instead of spending money you could take time to do stretches and exercises to strengthen your core and lower back.

I've got the steelcase leap, hundred and odd quid of ebay refurbished, looks and behaves pretty much as new and I find it a lot more comfortable than any of the seats that resemble your racing car chair.

I have the DX Racer Drifting, and have always suffered with lower back pain, but I find it very comfortable and causes me no issues. You are absolutely right to emphasise the need to strengthen the core and lower back though, which I am quite vigilant about... everyone should do this anyway, especially as we age lol!

Yeah I have seen the higher powers about my back pain before, Originally I think it was related to a work incident 10 years ago and a car accident 2 years ago seemed to set it off again and with heavy lifting at work thats not helped it.

Yep I'm very aware of this. Although another chair with the additional support might help in my recovery.

As we know the back has a very long healing process.

But I have a new mattress, leaving work in less than 4 weeks which help a great deal.

I think with the right chair it might settle down even more so. I have had the chair upright with the lumber support for the past couple of days and it seems to be helping, but I need to get the angle just right.

Yeah getting ya self sat upright really helps i find, whenever i start slouching my back seems to get worse.

A good quality chair is a worthwhile investment, i used to go through cheap chairs like 100-150 quid chairs every couple of years then i finally realised it was silly and bought a quality one that cost a good 300+ i cant remember exactly but its lasted about 7 years so far and i cant see any reason why it wont last another 7. Its not a fancy gaming chair or anything just a plain black leather chair.

My chair is a £50 one bought about 10 years ago that leans to one side and all foam is long collapsed, i wonder if this explains the sore back and stiff neck.

It sucks. I even moved my sofa up to my desk once because my 9 year old chair was starting to hurt my back so much. I just bought I nice leather one with lots of cushioning with a tilt lock (I think tilt locking is really bad for you but it's so comfy ffs)

It's a lot more comfortable and I can sit for longer but I will still get pain after several hours. However if I go swimming or whatever for an hour or so I can sit on anything for the rest of the day without any pain at all.

Sorry for the thread hijack. I'm struggling with my DX Racer, I brought it about a month ago. I've had to switch back to my old chair, as I was getting considerable back pain after 3-4 hrs. Since going back to my old chair I've had no problems :/

Guessing I'll have to sell the chair second hand, and look for something else. The trouble being, I can't really try chairs out as it takes several hours of sitting before I notice any pain. I do lots of exercise and stretching, so don't think it's strength related.
