Superdry might be worth a look, some of their stuff isnt garish and actually works I have a nice waterproof black coat from them (like this - https://www.superdry.com/mens/jackets/details/168980/tech-hood-pop-zip-sd-windcheater-jacket--black) and it is actually waterproof (been in some downpours in it).
The old paradox of paying more for lightness, so pay more = get less.
I really want an Arc'teryx bag but as I'm not a top revenue earner I can't justify the price for a day bag!
Keep an eye on SportPursuit, they sometimes have Arc bags. Also there's the Arc'teryx outlet, which has last season etc.

Great bag due to its clamshell design. It full opens like a suitcase but is also a backpack and can be carried sideways too.

I would go for an Osprey talon 33 as a general day bag now actually. Probably big enough to fit in weeks worth of stuff and would go under the seat of a plane based on the new baggage rules for Ryan air and Easyjet
I don't know why I'm being so stingy really. I use my backpack a lot. I've had the same 30L Berghaus bag for must be about 10 years now and it's been all over the world with me and was on my back during my motorbike accident. It's battered and has holes but I have an odd sentimental attachment to it!
I should be happy to spend a decent amount on a bag as it'll get so much use but it's not the most exciting purchase to make

I had a Berghaus Arete tour (45+8) for years which I used for travelling 9 month in 2007. The chest strap is broken on it but it still does well as a festival bag to carry sleeping bag, floor mat, pillow, clothes for a few days and beers
I use the Talon 22 almost everyday (or did before lockdowns) just for things like gym clothes and picking up shopping

This? Got the previous one in black with orange zips etc, had it for 6 years, great snug fit and love it.
I'm outdoors a lot with walking, photography and sitting in the cold watching football and for the price I don't think you can go wrong.
Unless you prefer a branded name..
