New Computer Build

Well that motherboard doesn't say it supports quadcore, so it's not too futureproof. Also, the 4300 has very close specs too the 6300, but I see it's only $10 more, so I'll get it. Now you guys, is my payment selection. Right now I have $90 in my account. If I cash in my savings bonds, I will have about $450 in my account. My paycheck will be next week, and I've been working as much as I can to rack up money so I could get a computer. If I clear $6 an hour after taxes(Washington state has the highest min wage,) and I work 22 hours a week, plus this weekend I'm doing an allnighter Valentine's day thing for the YMCA, which will be like 6 hours. That's 28 hours * 6 dollars = $168. Of course I'll need to keep $30 for gas, so $138. That's $588 in the near future. Now a certain website that contains a smelly food product, which is fresh(wink wink,) has a bill be later plan. I'm 18, going too highschool, just got a checking account. Should I do the bill me later plan? I only wanna use my debit card, not the credit card. Sorry for my long winded post.

$705 is my new setup before shipping, and before rebate. Should I get the GameXstream from the other website, where it's $100 with $20 rebate, or from the most popular one, which is $130, with $20 rebate. Purchasing from the Chicken product makes it more convenient, but costs more.

the GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 & GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 are the same mobo, but the DS3 is the newer revision & uses solid state capacitors, therefore the board will last longer & its only $8 more. both are Quad Core boards.

For PSU would get it from egg, as it will work out cheaper overall (shipping would be included with the rest of the stuff)

As for eggs pay later plan, i cant comment as i have never used it or even looked at it.

Ok, I got the DS-3. Does anyone know if the egg allows all this stuff with debit cards? Or will they only do payment plans with credit cards? I want it to be like Guitar Center, where you have like a selected time period, and you can make little payments here and there, as long as you payoff by the time period. God you guys, I'm giddy with excitement(gay word, I know, haha.) Seriously, I was taking a Chem test, and I zoned out for like 20 minutes thinking about my new computer.

From what I can see, if you want to pay it off bit by bit, NO Payment For 90 Days promo is good, you can then pay off the whole balance in one go or pay some at a time. As long as yo pay the balance with in 90 days, you will pay no extra charges.

I think thats right

Thanks for your help. Give me your honest opinion...what differences will I see with this new setup over my original setup(not my suggest AMD one, the socket 478 P4 one.)

And would you play on this system?

It will destroy your old Northwood setup. Game performance will be excellent. Overall performance will not be much far behind my PC, & Im on a Quad Core. (the Quad only shines in certain areas).

Your new build is not that far from where my current system started.

Just a note, if you wish to overclock, you may want to get an after market cooler. A Tuniq Tower or somin

Thanks for all of your help. I just noticed this MOBO has an awkward RAM setup, does it require dual kit RAM? And if so, which should I get? Also, my HD is IDE, so can I use an adaptor too SATA or what new HD should I get? God, I'll keep racking up the debt. I'll just try to work for 30 hours a week. Next trimester I'll take 1 and 4th periods out, so I can work morning shift, and have a 2 hour break before afternon shift.

You'd see a small performance improvement from using dual channel RAM but I wouldn't say it's necessary.

You could use an adaptor that'll let you run an IDE driver over SATA. You could also use the 'board's onboard IDE controller. You can run up to two IDE devices on it. For many that would mean 1 optical drive and 1 HDD.

If you decide to get a new HDD, I find the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 line to be fantastic in their quietness and speed.

There is one IDE on the mobo, so you can have 1 CD/DVD drive & one IDE HDD, the RAM does not need to be run in Dual-Channel. single channel is okay, you can always add more RAM later.

Dual-Channel:

Alright, I'm already into the big bucks for myself, so I wont skimp on the harddrive. Here's my new complete setup, I'd get an audigy and 5.1 speakers but I don't know if I wanna go into the 1ks. Please tell me if all of this stuff is compatible.

If you're getting a new hard disk make sure it's not another IDE drive. :p

You want the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250820AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

LMAO! (sorry but it calls for comp lingo)

I'm a dumbass. I will make that change.
I've done the calculations, clearing $6 of spending money an hour, subtract $30 a month for gas, $75 for insurance. I clear about $981 this month, plus the $90 in the bank account, and the $300-350 of savings bonds, I think I can afford this, even with an audigy and some 5.1 speakers. Hell yeah.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3200820AS 200GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

This was on my wishlist, I think I copied and pasted the wrong one :)

Alright I'm adding an AUDIGY 5.1, which speakers should I get?

Creative Inspire 5800 72 Watts 5.1 Speaker - Retail
or
Logitech X-540 70 watts 5.1 Speaker - Retail
or
Recommend some under $100.

With the Audigy and Logitech speakers it's $1035. Do you guys think I should be getting into this?

I think you should just stick to the on-board sound for now & get some cheap speakers if you need. You can always add things like this at later date

Save your money for high school ;)

Do you *need* a new computer? Are the games you are playing really slow or are you missing out on some games?

Consider just getting an upgraded graphics card (I assume you have a 8x AGP port on that mobo). There's a great 19xx range of AGP cards that would give you a monster improvement in gaming performance without costing the earth

I'm going into the ARMY in 6 months, I don't need to save money. Anyways I was thinking about getting a cool case for under $100. The Raidmax ninja looks cool. Would it work with my stuff, and can I removed it's cheapo power supply?

Edit: Will any case work with all of my stuff? How can I check whether or not it will fit, and will my power supply fit in any case?

RAIDMAX RX-9 SE ATX-911SEB Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

If the motherboard is ATX, and is 12" by 8.5", this says it can hold up to 12" by 10"...so the motherboard will fit. How about the PSU and the Graphics card?

ATX is a standard format so an ATX case should take both an ATX mobo and an ATX PSU.

There are exceptions to this - some of the monster PSUs (1KW beasts) are longer than standard and therefore don't fit in some cases.

GPUs are a different story. In general, the double slot Direct 9 cards fit in all ATX cases (some are tighter than others) but they may compromise the number of available PCI slots due to overhang. The brand new Direct 10 cards are longer and these have caused issues in some cases

Would the x1950pro fit in? I've heard they are big.

Edit: Does anyone suggest I get an 8800 instead of an x1950 pro? Even if it's more spendy, it's futureproof right? And how hard would it be bottlenecked by my current specs of this new intel system? (E6300, DS3 MOBO, 600W GameXstream, 2 gig OCZ dual channel ram ddr800)

They're big but certainly not near as huge as the 8800s.

If you've got the money and the space in your case, go for it. They're the best cards money can buy at the moment.

With a healthy overclock your CPU would still be the bottleneck but overall system performance would be excellent.

If I were you I would not get an 8800. I'd get the Pro and wait until DX10 games were more common and I was finding my current card struggling.

The best thing going for the 8800 cards now is that they are the best DX9 cards you can buy. And this 320MB version looks value for money as well.
