Hi guys. Been saving a little cash to upgrade my computer and I'm basically looking for any advice on the build. I've got roughly £350 to spend and I'm aiming to get an i5 processor.

I need RAM, PSU (with cooler) and a motherboard. I've got an EVGA 9800gtx+ which I'm going to keep.

hope you guys can help, thanks a lot!

when you say i5 processor, do you mean socket 1156 or the newer 1155?

this is the ram to buy for either socket - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-104-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

this psu - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-042-BQ&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1083

then you have £260 approximately left over for cpu and motherboard, the new i5 1155 stuff prices will be out on the 9th, they were up earlier today, but have been taken down, and i cant remember what they were.

Ok I will. Will that PSU be powerful enough for that build do you think?

Easily, and it will cope with any graphics card you decide to realistically upgrade too.

But, be patience and see what the 1155 prices are.

Wow thanks very much, seems better than the one I had already. I didn't realise the power supply would be fine, I've been looking at 700w minimum over the past few days. Fingers crossed the prices of the 1155 CPUs are low enough though.

The thing is, with your budget you will only ever afford a motherboard that can accept one graphics card, crossfire/sli will almost certainly be out of the question, so that Bequiet PSU will only have to deal with a single gpu, and I also doubt you will be looking at a GTX480/GTX580 which are the two power eating monsters.

so thats why I think you can deal with all other gpus on the market apart from those two.

yeah, i'm looking for a solid upgrade from my current Q6600 with 4GB of DDR2. On a good old aBit IP35. Just bought a new case for the build and I've just been looking through trying to figure out what's best. Don't feel I'll be getting a better gfx card any time soon with this upgrade.

You got a good card from a few years ago, its a faster re-named version of a 8800GT, If you decided to upgrade it, then spending just £120 gets a GTX460 768MB version.

Is a comparison of a 8800GT vs GTX460, if you think you can spend more , when funds allow after the other bits are bought, then obviously you get more performance again.

well, after speaking about the sandy bridge stuff i've changed my mind and i'm going to wait until february starts. i'll get paid and hopefully i could afford a little bit more. That card is pretty good btw. I guess i could always buy again in march for that.
