New computer: Essential software

Hello all,

I've recently purchased a new gaming laptop from PC Specialist. I've never owned a particularly high-spec computer before, so I want some advice on what software I should use for the following:

1) Monitor the temperatures whilst gaming
2) Undervolting/adjusting fan speeds - the fans seem to be very active even when the computer isn't doing much/as is barely active. For example the CPU is running at almost 3000 RPM and the GPU fan at 2500 RPM at pretty much rest. The CPU usage is 2% and GPU usage at 10% for those fan speeds.
3) Tools such as disk defragmenter, driver booster etc, are they worth downloading?
4) Anything I'm missing to look after and keep tabs on a new expensive computer

1. hwmonitor
2. use cpu-z to check the cpu voltage drops when idle. voltage is what causes temperature. temperature requires cooling. you'll want to get to the bottom of this properly.
3. don't need to defrag SSDs. or any other bloatware.
4. nope.

1) HWiNFO has been my choice over HWMonitor.
2) Depending on the motherboard, the UEFI will usually allow you to change the fan speed and some can even allow you to set fan profiles. For GPU, MSI AfterBurner can allow you to change the fan speed for it.
3) Not required, Windows is fine enough.
