um yeah you probably could if you want to spend £2k on a quadro with a similar soec to a gtx280. Workstation cards sub £400 are based on 8600 or below gpu's with optimisations for CAD

The GTX to quadro flash hasn't properly worked for a while now.

As to spec - seems ok but I'd agree on all the points mentioned.

As i said before, i owned a Quadro FX3500M and the reason flashing doesnt work is because the hardware is very much geared towards OpenGL and not DirectX at all. The difference between them as become a lot bigger than it was many years ago. The problem with the quadros in the gaming aspect is when it comes to a directX optimised game, you are really going struggle no matter how good your quadro card is! OpenGL is the complete opposite end of the scale. Blisterring fast!!!

To be honest, unless you are a SERIOUSLY heavy user of programs like CAD, MAYA or do a lot of video encoding or visual work, the mainstream cards are very up to the job. Quadro's are very specialized for serious professionals, hence the 4x plus price increase from the mainstream market.

The decision is purely yours dependant on what you really are going be doing more of, all i'll say is unless your an intensive user of professional programs, Mainstream is easily the way to go, Hell, i even wonder why people shell out so much for quadro's and i was one of them :)

O yes, Nvidia have a lot better OpenGL support than ATI so there cards are the ones you need, Pref with 1GB onboard memory and as above post said, 12GB Ram is only going bennifit you :)
