New Computer Randomly Crashing Especially When Loading Discs

Hi there, i have a problem with a new-ish computer, purchased/built in june. Its a work pc, so pretty basic:

AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz

MSI GF615M-P33 GeForce 6150SE

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit

OcUK Swift 450W Silent Power Supply

A 250gb sata hard drive

IDE DVD drive

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

Basically, its slow all the time, used to freeze a lot, updated the nvidia graphics drivers, helped a bit, but still freezes when trying to load from discs, also hangs a lot, and doesnt identify USB sticks.

When clicking to start the MSI drivers dvd from My Computer freezes and displays a white background with black diagonal lines.

I then thought i've had enough, reinstalled windows, now im trying to access the same dvd, but its freezing and throwing up a white background with bluey thick diagonal lines.

I've tried running 1 stick of ram, same thing happens with both of them, the problem is still there.

I also ran Prime for half an hour, nothing happened there, no unexpected rebooting or anything.

I'm just stuck as to what to do now, i hope someone can help.

it probably wont solve your problems, but i would seriously get a better PSU than that. going for a no-brand PSU is a complete no-no (i will happily bombard you with links to prove my point if you want

)

the corsair builder series 430W isnt being sold by OcUK right now so i'll recommend the Lepa W-Series 450W instead as its the cheapest PSU i'd recommend to someone being sold by OcUK
(well, there is one other PSU that is ok, but its a lot worse, and only 60p cheaper)
this PSU will probably pay for itself because its more energy efficient than the OcUK one

is the PSU likely to cause the problems? Obviously from a business point of view its just used to send emails, write letters, excel etc, nothing hugely labour intensive, so the cheapest option looked the best.

Bump, can anyone shed any light? Ive built two more machines with more or less the same specification, just with gigabyte motherboards, could it be the msi motherboard causing the problem?

PSU should be all right. You have another drive to test? Can you put your drivers and whatnot on a USB stick? Do you have any conflicts in your device manager (yellow exclamation mark on devices)?

BTW, if you managed to install Win 7 from the optical drive, it looks more like a driver issue.

Try using a ubuntu linux disk and boot off that - use the PC, "load some disks" and if it crashes it's hardware, if it doesn't then it's software.

dont really use the disc drive to be fair, had to reinstall windows 7 from a USB, its just generally slow and freezes up quite a lot, programs not responding etc, surely it shouldn't do that? its not exactly slow, 3.0ghz dual core, 4gb ram, what more does it need!
