New consoles = better CPU optimization?

Even still, if Teppic's benchmark is the standard setting so it doesn't show the crippling to make Nvidia stronger, why the FPS difference between the two benchmarks, surely the crippled one (Techspots) to make Nvidia seem faster would have lower frame rates in there results.

That's what I'm saying.

Techspot's usually very reliable I think. I wouldn't imagine they'd enable DDOF just to make nvidia cards come out better (some sites might), rather because they thought it improves the ultra setting. They list is as using DDOF on top of ultra.

Yes thats the problem, most of the sites use a pointless setting just because it lowers fps but adds nothing in the way of image quality. A few sits have posted results of the standard setting, but its rare.

If you check out the gpu section and search for the Bioshock Infinite benchmark thread you'll find that everyone agrees the stock ultra settings are the best and the custom DDOF filter adds nothing but a fps drop.

EDIT

Actually this linus bench uses the alt processing effect i think, but it has the 7970 beating the 770. But this is with cards overclocked.

I'm still convinced that with the custom filter DDOF off, amd are generally faster and nvidia are faster with it on.

The benchmark I posted definitely doesn't use DDOF. Here's the full set at several resolutions:

I can see that.
DDOF is meant to lower the frame rate so Nvidia get the lead ; As per LTMatt's explanation.

Your review shows it "none crippled"

FPS are lower in the "None crippled" review for Nvidia by quite a decent amount, for AMD the "crippled" results and the "none crippled" are about the same

Do we understand each other now :p?

That's comparing two different benchmarks on different sites though. The techspot one is using 13.3 beta drivers, ht4u is using 13.6, that could make a very big difference in a recent game like that.

It's the Nvidia results which are massively lower, not the AMD ones lol.

Techspot - older drivers, DDOF enabled.
ht4u - newer drivers, DDOF disabled.

It makes comparing the two as far as the AMD performance goes difficult.

I get that.

But DDOF is meant to give a decent hit to FPS, why is the DDOF benchmarks showing much better frames for the Nvidia cards.
With newer drivers, performance would also go up, but yet the results are much lower on the none DDOF ones for Nvidia.

Do we now have an understanding :p? The scenario is the opposite way around for Nvidia with those 2 benchmarks.

I will run a bioshock benchmark later once ive finished reinstalling windows showing the difference in fps between the two settings.

I get what you mean now ;)

I'm not sure. They're on different CPUs though - techspot is a 3960X, while ht4u is a 3820, that might give the higher nvidia results for techspot.

No idea then. What we really need is someone with a Titan and a 7970 to compare the two on the latest drivers with and without DDOF. Buy a Titan to check? ;)

Ha, you've actually got both?

At standard ultra settings, 1080p or 1440p, and both cards with the most recent available drivers, with and without DDOF, ideally on the same system.

Only got Titans - sorry
