New CPDN Project - Were Recent UK Floods Due to Climate Change?

In many respects it seems a little bit odd that, when concerned about the potential effects of carbon emissions affecting climate change, we are encouraged to increase said emissions for this project, by running our computers at 100% when they might otherwise be idling or even hibernating. Caught between rock and hard place.

Indeed, but without some forecasting it's impossible for policy makers to know how quickly emissions must be curbed, so the more modelling the better IMO.

I can tel you what the out come will be now ...it will be spending millions of tax payers money to scaremongering scientists wanting big fat research grants ...just like global warming is a load of tosh..which i have irrefutable prof

Sorry, but global warming is fact. 100% cast iron guarantee on that. If it wasn't, then kindly explain how we recovered from the last ice age.

If you'd said man made global warming, then you might have demonstrated that you had some grasp of the subject, and maybe even earned some respect for your point of view.

sorry i wrongly assumed that every body would have had realised i was talking about the rise of AGT because of the man made release of carbon dioxide and other green house gases as 99.99 % of press/TV coverage etc talks about global warming and the relationship of man made pollution

Its a bit like me not bothering to explain car wheels are round because every body knows...........i think

You say global warming IS fact... i am, sorry but it WAS a fact

In case people forgot about this, the results are pretty interesting.

Comparing numbers of extremely wet winters between these two groups provides estimates of the influence of climate change on the UK weather. We found that a 1-in-100-year winter rainfall event (ie. 1% risk of extreme rainfall in the winter of any given year) is now estimated to be a 1-in-80 year event (i.e. 1.25% risk of extreme rainfall in any given winter) so the risk of a very wet winter has increased by around 25%.

IMHO it wasnt the rain that caused the floods, it was the blocked uncared for rivers that went over the badly maintained banks that caused the problem, hope the dredgers have been busy and get some depth back in the rivers
