new cpu and mobo

ok i am wanting a new cpu and mobo probably more ram too(at least 1x1gb), think i will go for core 2 duo what's the best to go for? what's the best mobo to go for at decent price (£100ish if that is enough to get good one). i don't want to spent to much maybe a few hundred what yous think?

yea maybe a bit high drop the 2x1gb to a single 1gb stick.
is there a any difference between 'Allendale' and a 'Conroe'?

Same architecture but with different clock speeds & cache amount - 2MB for Allendale, 4MB for Conroe.
