So i'm looking for a new CPU to replace my Q6600 and while i'm at it the motherboard and RAM. Here's my current spec.

Q6600 OC'd at 3.2 (OC'd by overclockers)
Abit IX38 QuadGT
4GB Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D DDR2 1066 (4x1gb)
ATI Radeon HD 4800 series
Crucial m4 128BG SSD
Seagate 500GB HDD

And a few other things (it was a system built by overclockers).I'm only replacing the CPU motherboard and RAM though.

I do play games on it but haven't for quite a while.

What bundle would you recommend? I don't really have a budget but don't want to spend silly amount of money. Just want something that's going to be fairly snappy for a few years. Also thinking about having 8GB RAM too.

Though i could sell the Q6600 with the motherboard and RAM as a OC'd bundle, maybe get £60.

Thanks for the info.

With the Haswell coming and other future CPUs, will they use different socket and therefore require different motherboards? Or do we not know this yet?

I decided not to wait for Haswell as I figured I'd likely return to using descrete card for gaming. Replaced my Ix38 q6600 this month with a 3570k. Z77 motherboard and the cheapest branded 8gb memory I could find (not that I had to stick to a budget either). £262.

After factoring in selling the q6600 and the power saving over 3 years it's not really an expensive upgrade. The built in hd4000 is almost as fast as a 4850, so you might end up selling that too.

The rendering time improvements are very nice, and you can just about feel the difference of going from sata2 to sata3 with the ssd.

I just put that MB and cpu into a computer with a samsung 128gb ssd, it's power button to w7 desktop in 10 seconds. Even has me contemplating replacing my Q6700.

Look's a very good board for the price. Good looking, good layout, mosfet cooling, most of the bells and whistles. :) If my bro was to upgrade I would probably choose this board.
