New CPU Cooler advice

You did indeed, you also suggested leaving DDR_1 and DDR_2 free. Which it turns out is not possible under any scenario, unfortunately :(

It's worth a try as a way of using all 4 sticks of the OP's existing RAM.

I did caveat my posts stating that it might not work.

Have you tried running the 4 sticks in the slots furthest away from the processor leaving the 2 closest slots empty?

If it works you'd have more room for the larger CPU coolers.

I was just suggesting you try it the way I said.

If it doesn't work you've lost nothing.

If it does work then you don't need to spend any more money on RAM and you've made more room for the CPU cooler.

Edit

If the OP is feeling bold then they can, at their own risk, try this:

Corsair Vengeance Tall Heatsink Removed!!!

That looks interesting, I really don't mind having a go at removing it but can you get just the replacement heat spreaders, I don't see any on overclockers?

Thanks for all the replies I will have a go at moving the RAM around in a bit.

I doubt you need to replace the heat spreader.

RAM runs pretty cool and the heat spreaders are as much for show as anything.

Ah ok thanks

This is what I was talking about earlier it was 2 x 2gb from a bundle on this site, is it possible?

- RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel

I have just put in the noctua. Quality piece of kit. Silver arrow was too tall for my case.
Quiet, keeps temps down. I'd recommend it!

Hi All

Due to the memory issues I have decided to save all this hassle and go for a self contained water cooling kit, the Antec Kúhler H2O 920. While doing this I am also changing the fans in my case to Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan.

My question is I see the 920 has 2 fans are these controlled separately or as one, I am going to get a fan controller so need to know if I need 1 or 2 ports for the cooler? I am guessing it is one control both but wanted to be sure...

Thanks
