Hi all,

Have read back 20 plus pages about CPU coolers for an E6600 that just plonks straight into the standard fittings on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe. Obviously I want the best cooling I can get but do not want to fiddle with backplates.

Would consider ghetto modding which ever cooler you recommend with a decent fan. I will be lapping this myself.

Have seen the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) as the only real solution.

Recommend an alternative please.

Thanks

I found the scythe ninja rev. b easy enough to fit.

Getting the damn thing off again is a different story though... I can't get my fingers in to turn two of the plastic clips :o The large copper heatsinks on the P5W make it kind of tough to get in.

Ninja second to none for air cooling :) and at a good price + if you need some real kickass cooling out of it stick a delta on it

*WARNING DELTAS ARE EXTREMELY NOISEY FANS AND EAR PROTECTERS SHOULD BE WORN AT ALL TIMES ;) *

you forgot to add, any small animals should not be in the vicinity of the delta when it is powered up due to them being sucked in! i once lost a bird (the feathered kind) from a delta :(

Sorry for the slight Hi-jack - but I'm also looking for a 6600 cooler.

wizardmaxx, what is the Thermaltake Sonic Towr like? It was the cooler I initally thought about, but no-one here seems to recommend it (instead choosing the Scythe or Artic). I might be OCing my 6600 - how well would it cope?

why do you need an alternative, best bang for your buck right there

it would cope fine and i'm pretty sure u can wedge a 120mm fan in the middle of it, as for overclocking whilst passive you might be able to get a bit out of it not sure how much but obv just keep an eye on temps and you'l be fine!

Wedged -Zalman ZM-F3 @12v for overclocking @7.5v Normal running. The exhaust fan is the 3speed Antec that came with the case. I use my super techno uber duct mod to assist cooling though.

Exactly why I wanted one without a backplate lol.

I may change my mind on this damn mainboard, it seems a hell of a lot of trouble.

Think I may just go with my original idea, although the thought of having a cardboard box in there is appealing.. :D

Ghetto PC is where it's at,

What has happened to all the reviews, group tests and comparisons I used to find for CPU coolers, they don't seem to exist anymore.

Are all the "Top end" cpu coolers much the same in terms of silence and cooling - is it things like an installation without a back plate and obviously *bling value*/cost that set them apart?
By top end I mean the: Scythe Ninja, Artic Freezer, Thermaltake Sonic Tower and Zalman 9500.
