New cpu cooler won't fit. HELP!!!

I have just bought an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 to replace the stock cooler. My mobo is an msi 770-c45.

Both say they are socket AM3 and yet I cant seem to mount the new cooler.

Are the two compatible.
Any advice would be most appreciated!
 
I only got this to say...have you read the instruction that comes with the cooler for installing the cooler on AM board? Or did you buy 2nd hand and didn't get the mount and instruction for AM board?
 
Cooler is new but instructions are very vague. It does come with hooks for amd mobo's but there is nowhere to clip them in on the mobo socket.

I have replaced the cpu cooler of other pc's so am not unaware of the process.

Have read elsewhere that for the msi 770-c45 I need the ac freezer 64 pro instead of the freezer 7. (Can anyone confirm this?)

I have tried to attach the included amd clips in the position shown in the picture but they don't affix securely.
The clips screw on fine to the cooler but don't clip on to the socket. Any ideas?

With the amd clips attached loosely you should be able to put the clips over the latches on each side of the bracket, then tighten them up. Bare in mind you may not need to tighten the screws all the way, just enough to make sure its nice and secure.
 
Just fitted one of these coolers the other day to a AM3 in situ. A bit fiddly but macster's discription is the best way that I found.

Attach the brackets with just a couple of turns of the screw (outside most hole) to BOTH sides of the cooler.
Apply thermal grease to CPU
Locate cooler on top of CPU
Push inwards and locate the hole in bracket onto the lug on the plastic bracket surrounding the CPU socket. I found that you have to apply a little downward pressure at the same time to get it to fully locate!
Once both brackets are located screw fully down

As I said a little fiddly but you'll get the job done :)


NB - MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE FAN FIRST LOL

attach the metal plates to the plastic clips first, then screw up, remove the fan naturally just bare with it, it is more fiddly then using intels method ;)
