So I upgraded from my e6470 to a Q9550 and from ATI 5870 to 290X.

Motherboard is
GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 3.3) updated BIOS via @BIOS (seems to be F7) although not sure thats the latest ?! Tried manual via file but none of the files seem to work when selecting so had to do via server and this was the result. (I'm sure it said it thought it was rev 2.2 board ://)

So..installed..Booted up and BIOS recognised CPU went to load windows and got stuck on the windows 7 loading screen, it then froze. I restarted and it asked If I wanted to try system repair or load windows as standard but I was not able to selected anything (keyboard non responsive....although it is fine in BIOS)...so its gone into repair and stuck on a black screen. From here I restarted and doing the whole process again, its 'Attempting Repairs' and I cannot cancel this...

Forgive my n00bness but a new CPU does not require a fresh windows install does it ?? I though that was only MOBO.

Maybe I should have done GFX first and then CPU rather than both?

Ive checked BIOS settings for CPU and all seem fine. Any ideas?

Real long shot here - have you tried with just the OS drive connected to SATA port 1? i.e. the main intel port?

Personally, i'd do a fresh windows install anyway.

edit: if not latest bios, upgrade.

Good luck

You should be ok with the CPU change as normally if the BIOS does not support the CPU you would not even boot.

Did you try uninstalling the old Gpu drivers (even though your going for another AMD card) before installing the new card.

Can you reach Safe mode at all.

PSU is ok.

Check the SATA configuration (IDE or AHCI mode) and try adjusting that in the BIOS, perhaps the update set it back to default when it was previously changed.

I'm into windows! god knows how. Took secondary drive out and uninstalled 4th module of RAM which was diff make. Got to Windows repair. Cancelled, restarted and it launched windows as normal.

Updating drivers now. Then will look at BIOS.

Is it worth updating BIOS even if all is now well? I am looking to o/c these babies
