Hi all, (first post)

I just got my Q6600, P5k Premium and 2x 1Gb Crucial 8500 delivered, very exciting.

I ripped out my old mobo with AMD chip and stuck in my new mobo. Started first time and got to windows screen, logged in and installed all the new drivers.

I then looked at the task manager and it only shows 1 cpu in the performance section, puzzling. After rebooting and installing some more drivers I did notice that there was now 4 cpus in the task manager, yay!

Finally after I had installed everything I had a quick game of css to see what it was like, ran v smoothly. Then on exiting it I looked at the task manager again to find that it was only showing 1 cpu!

Then when I ran cpu-z it gave me a load of stange info, stating that its a quad q6600 but then at the bottom it says "Cores 1", and the multiplier is jumping between 6 and 9, how can I stop this? When its running on a 6 multipler it is only stated as 1.6MHz, and I want this baby to be running a lot faster than that!!

Also with Core Temp I is only showing the temp on Core #0 running about 38C. But it shows that the mulitpler is constant and not changing between 6 and 9 all the time. Arggg what have I done wrong, I thought it was going so smoothly!

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

I believe its to do with Speedstepping, when the PC is just idle it slows the Processor down to save power etc...

In bios its listed as C1E and Eist I think (cant check at mo) someone else might confirm this?

If they are disabled in the Bios you should be running at full speed at all times.

Peace

Thanks will go into BIOS now and turn off C1E or Eist if find them in the settings. Does anyone know why core temp, cpu-z and the task manager all can't see the other 3 cores I have?

cheers

P.s how do you post images, I have taken a screen dump of some of these weird effects so I can show people,

Cheers

Get photo bucket http://photobucket.com/ (or similar), host the picture you want displayed,

click the "insert image" button on the posting bar (the one that looks like a postcard) and insert the Url of the image in the box that pops.

There we go, as you can see the task bar only has one CPU usage history. I have now fixed the multiplier going down to 6 as seen in CPU-Z. But still can't get info on the other 3 cores in either cpu-z or core temp. Any help is much appreciated

Redown load coretemp 0.96 http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/CoreTemp.zip. Uninstall 0.95 completely. post back.

Are you using vista/ 64X OS?

I have deleted the other Coretemp, then downloaded the one you suggested, when I run that I still get the same result.

Isn' this something more than just coretemp as the task manager itself can't see the other 3 cores? Has anyone heard of that before?

After a bit of googling I found a useful bit of info on this. As I was previously using a single processor set up I needed to update my device manager set up, where it says computer, then ACPI Multiprocessor PC, I updated the driver for that.

Here is the guide if any1 else gets stuck, I now have cpu-z and coretemp working fine and have 4 cores in my task manager.

Thanks for all the help guys
