Hi

Decided I need an upgrade and I fancy going to for the Q9550, I currently have a e6600 stock on a Asus P5WDH Deluxe board and 4GB Corsair pc2 6400 and a GTX260 so as you can see im running old tech. :p

Should I really be looking at upgrading to a newer board aswell as some faster ram, or will adding the quad make a significant differance to my gaming.

Thanks

After looking on the asus website, it doesn't look like that board supports 45nm processors (like the q9550, not sure if there is way of getting round that, but the board is definitely not designed with them in mind).

Anyway, games don't really make use of multicores yet, so a 2.5GHz intel core 2 quad will not have much of an advantage over a 2.5GHz intel core 2 duo. My suggestion is get a nice beefy cooler like this and overclock the heck out of your chip (should be able to hit at least 3.5GHz). With an overclock like this you will likely be graphics card limited in most games and you would not have seen any benefit in upgrading to a q9550 anyway.

damn so doesnt look like my board can take it, so best suggestion is to so far clock the pants off the e6600 and it would be better than a q9550 and new board at the moment?
