Hi,

I currently have an i5 6600k & may consider upgrading to the latest Kabylake I7 later in the year.

Is it still the case that you need to reformat your PC when you change your CPU? Or does Windows 10 negate the need for that?
Thanks

Only really need to do it when changing motherboard, even then with Windows 10 I never had to reinstall anything when changing boards but results may vary on that one.

Not sure you've ever had to do that for just a CPU swap.
Motherboard and CPU may need it but Win 10 is quite good at picking up hardware changes.
However changing major components may fall foul of the license use agreement depending on the actual license version.
Andi.

If you intend to change your CPU for a newer one, I'd check that your current BIOS will support the upgrade, check the motherboard's manufacturer's support website and upgrade the BIOS if required before changing the CPU.
