New CPU

Hi Guys I have a spare motherboard lying about, and id thought i would use it

The motherboard is a gigabyte p31, and I was thinkng of putting in a E3300.

However according to the gigabyte website, the borad will require a Bios update to support the chip.

Anycase my question is, would the board work with the CPU in even if its not supported so i can do a bios update. As i really dont have any spare CPU's lying about

Nope, board will not load BIOS without CPU (or even POST). It may beep a bit.

Any idea what BIOS version you have in the P31 at the minute?

Not sure, but I have had the board for more than 2 years, I was just thinking of putting the CPU in and hoping so I can just up date the bios

varies from board to board. some might throw a hissy fit, some might just about work.

try using an emergency recovery procedure to shoehorn the new bios on. Theres usually some way of forcing the board to start this procedure, even if it thinks the bios is ok

first, identify your bios make.
