If you go to support and cpu list you'll see that the 4300 is supported with BIOS F3.

Compleatly lost me mate -_- Soon as somone says bios idk wtf there going on about. i was lucky enough on my first build that i put it all together and it just worked lol

Abridged version in normalish speak :

It's a chip on the board that does a self test then sets up the components so the computer can initialise an operating system. Motherboard makers update them periodically to add features, squash bugs and support new CPUs.

Check the gigabyte site for more information on your board and update instructions.

Thanks for putting it in more of a simple way, i've read the whole wiki link now too :) I get the hang of what it is and does, just need to look about now on how-to play around with it. Theres no help on gigabyte site on howto actually flash the mobo and if my current cpu will still work, but i'll keep chugging through google. Somone should maybe teach these kinds of things in this forum somewere ;) Saying that a forum called overclockers is probs aimed more at seasoned pc users/builders than people like myself.

Ye sorry wasn't sure how much info you wanted.

I've used @BIOS in the past on Gigabyte boards with no problems, but make sure you don't lose power during the process! It only takes a minute or two though but can be nerve-wracking.

Otherwise Q-flash is slightly safer if you've got a thumb drive lying around.

BIOS Version/Date: Award software international, Inc F4 19/10/2012.

Just found this in my system info. Im guessing thats the all clear on slapping the piledriver right in with no faffadge required? :)

I figured i upgraded my gpu fairly cheap and am thinking my birthdays coming up why not go for a new cpu aswell. Every bit more umff helps right?

Currently have this mobo http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#ov

Will this go in there ok? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-339-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=1825

Bound to be a big improvement to my AMD Athlon II X4 640 for not a lot of cash.

Currently got 8gb 1066 ram too.

Get an FX6300. The FX6300 has twice the L3 cache of a FX4300 and is generally a quicker CPU.

I would also get some faster RAM,at some point too.

Worth a look for sure at a tenner more, but dont you need a mobo with a core unlocker to use 6 or more cores? Dont think my mobo has that on.

Yeah definetly get the FX6300 for an extra £10, mines clocked to 4ghz with no probs at all. Nope you dont need the core unlocker. As long as the cpu is in your motherboards compatibility list it should be fine
