its been a while since I've been on here so quite out of touch with the latest technologies.

I'm looking to sell my current setup..just curious as to what CPU's Intel and AMD are due to release soon, and if they're known...release dates.

Would really appreciate an answer :D

The new Intel architecture is due soon. It's called Core i7, will be 45nm and will feature two "standard" CPUs and one "Extreme Edition" at launch.

All will be quad core, on the new LGA1366 socket, and will support DDR3. They will also sport a new triple-channel memory controller, which you will need 3 sticks of RAM to take full advantage of.

From reading around, it seems the revisions help things like virtualisation more than gaming, however it should still give a good boost in all areas.

They're due around October or just after, probably launching with a new Intel X58 chipset to drive them. Obviously, due to the new socket, at least a new motherboard will be required.

As for AMD, it's quite quiet on their front. There's talk of shrinking Phenom but as to what advantages this will give apart from reduced heat and power, it's unclear. There have been numerous reports of a Phenom FX range due soon though, which may or may not be impressive.

Sadly there are little details on the AMD front overall. Phenom FX is expected soon though, there are numerous screenshots of engineering sample chips doing the rounds.

Yeah, you're right. I'd heard rumours that Asrock were going to try a board with both DDR2 and DDR3 support, but that's since been squashed as it's not possible.

Also, X58 will have SLi support as well as Crossfire.

Sounds good, am looking to switch to quad core.....any ideas on a rough date of when these will be on sale?

Core i7 900 Extreme Edition [3.2 GHz] $999
Core i7 900 [2.93 GHz] $562
Core i7 800 [2.66 GHz] $284

So you're looking at silly money for the EE chip (I think about £750 would be fair given launch premium and tax).

And i'd say £300 and £200 or thereabouts for the other chips.

I'll be waiting personally for G53/G55 as I love my SFF machine, then i'll probably drop a Ci7 800 in there.

Yeah sli will be supported without the nforce 200 chip natively but tri sli will require boards with the chip.

You mean quad will require the NF200 chip or tri sli with 3x x16 slots. You can do tri sli without NF200 in a x16 x8 x8 config.

So whats the deal with the new triple channel memory? Can you still use dual channel? Dont seem to know many people who have 3 sticks of memory
