New cranks needed..

Hi guys,

Somehow managed to destroy the thread connecting the pedal to the crank arm on my bike, so I figure I need a new one right? Ideally I'd like to just replace the arm to keep costs low (I'm totally skint) but I can't seem to find the same one for sale anywhere. Should I just go for it and replace the entire crankset?

I've been looking at this - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=2369
Will it be compatible with a fully standard 2006 rockhopper? And would the LX be an upgrade? http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?arc=2006&spid=21749

As you can tell I'm a bit of a noob, but I'll get there. What tools will I need for the procedure?! :)

TIA

Nice one, thanks for the reply!

I just noticed this -

Please Note The LX M572 requires a 121mm Bottom Bracket for the correct clerance and chainline

BOTTOM BRACKET Shimano, BB-ES30 68x113mm

Would that present a problem at all, or are chain reaction just covering their backs?

Also, there's two sizes, I should go for the 22.32.44 ones right?!

I take it I'm going to need to remove the chain from the old crankset, I take it I don't need any more tools for that?

So many questions :D

Ahh, didn't notice that there, have a look at the Deore sets, they look (from the reviews) to be better overall and work with a standard BB.

22/32/44 is the normal tooth config, so go for one of those. Do you know the length of your old crank arms?

You only have to take the chain off the rings, you just lift it off and rest it on the BB shell unti you're ready to put it back on.

Argh! I knew the price seemed a little too good to be true. I might scour ebay and see what I can find. Really looking to keep it below £50 and upgrade at the same time to make me feel better! :)

Your chain is an SRAM job, so you need no tools to get it off - it has a Powerlink.

Which arm have you busted the thread on - is it the drive or non-drive side. Call CRC or any other bike shop and they should be able to order in the single arm specially - it's not the kind of thing they publish on their site as it's rare that people need them.
