I've no idea if this is true or not but I once read online that Nikon developed the idea of IS but gave exclusive use to Canon for X amount of years (on lenses over a certain length), so Nikon were unable to release it in their own lenses.xolotl said:What surprising to me is that Nikon didn't have any IS super primes before this announcement. I just assumed that they would have. I guess there is a reason you only see big whites at sporting events!

Sounds like BS to me, but it is very odd that Nikon have waited so long, I'll agree on that!
Indeed, the benefit for everyone though is increased competition leading to lower prices.xolotl said:These new bodies do look very nice but I doubt it's going to cause many people to switch. After all new bodies come along every year. For anyone with a significant investment in either system selling up is rarely an attractive option.
Yup, the Canon LCD's only have 230,000 pixelsjhmaeng said:And both the D300 and D3 have 922,000 pixel, 3-inch screens... The Canon ones are 3 inch too, of course, but I bet they're considerably less detailed.

Gives me longer to get the pennies ready at least.

As am I. Although I suspect by the time they get to me on the list there will be a lot of owners reviews already online lol. I should have called first thing this morning but I was late for work, doh!messiah khan said:Congratulations. *Major jealousy* Really look forwards to seeing what you think of it and what you can produce using it.![]()

Wide sensitivity range
The camera’s ISO sensitivity range is extremely broad, allowing photographers to shoot
low noise photographs in a variety of situations. The camera’s normal range is from ISO
200 to 6400, and this range can be extended using the camera’s built-in settings of Lo-1
and Hi-2 for the equivalent of ISO 100 and ISO 25,600, respectively.
Its nothing more than a marketing gimmick. I would be very surprised if this Nikon out did Canon in the noise IQ one sided warxolotl said:So it doesn't have a proper ISO 100 setting. That's slightly odd. The boosting of the ISO has never really appealed to me, surely you can achieve the same function by using EC then photoshop?

I think the jury is out on this one. These new sensor's are Nikon's own compared to the Sony designs they've used in the past. Who knows what the noise levels will be like!Fstop11 said:Its nothing more than a marketing gimmick. I would be very surprised if this Nikon out did Canon in the noise IQ one sided war

This is true. ISO200 was about the rating of ISO120 or something. Either way, it was a noisy systemdivine` said:They never have had ISO100 though a lot of people say that Nikon's ISO speeds are slightly slower than marked and so a Nikon ISO200 is fairly close to a Canon 100 in terms of exposure/metering/whatever.
